Means-test pensions at £1,000,000 assets and remove the triple lock. Tie pension increases to inflation only. This is perfectly reasonable, but if you dare to suggest it then people will comment suggesting you should be sent to Ukraine and die in a trench.

Subsequently, Lehman Brothers went under to the tune of $600bn, BearSterns was bailed out and literally every bank in the west had enormous defaults because of this. Read a book

Here is part of my mortgage statement from 2002. I paid £900pm on a £100k mortgage (an average house in my area was around £120k. Today a £100k mortgage would cost you about £600pm on a 2026 salary. Max needs to understand a lived experience isn't the same as a Google search.

@PeteWilcock @Landeur No you havent been paying for it. The state pension is not a savings account, your tax & ni pays toward all the public services you have enjoyed throughout your life, all FOC at point of use. The rest went on paying the generation before you’s pension.

@Exp_Sec_Prof @where4artthow Even on that income out goings it doesn’t leave a lot. For us there had been a housing crash. Values had fallen mortgages climbed to 15%. We couldn’t afford the mortgage at that time and took a risk to re-mortgage to make ends meet it was either that or loose everything!

@SandyofSuffolk Concerted campaign underway to defraud us of our state pension. I spent 50 years paying tax which paid previous generations pensions. Never did I think this was unfair. So disrespectful what we are hearing now. Sad.
