What are Rhode Islanders getting in return for some of the highest taxes in the country? Yesterday at a panel hosted by the Greater Providence Chamber of Commerce, I commented: If we had the best schools, I’d understand the high taxes. If we had the best roads and bridges, I’d understand the high taxes. But we can’t honestly say we’re the best at anything. That’s why I introduced RI Senate Bill 2672 — a modest tax cut to provide relief for Rhode Islanders that signals that our state is headed in the right direction. Hardworking people deserve to keep more of what they earn, and government must be accountable for every dollar it takes. It’s time to lower the burden and put Rhode Islanders first.
