Dear Dr @SaleemFarrukh Sb, Aramco crude price announcement for August 2026 delivery is indeed softer but you are well aware that for past many decades Petrol prices in Pakistan are determined on basis of Platts index which for Petrol remains higher than USD 88/barrel for this week. Prior to war e.g. on 27 February 2026 Platts Petrol was USD 76/barrel. Hence you would appreciate that Petrol remains USD 12/barrel more expensive (even if you ignore higher incidentals / premium in importing petrol). You are also well aware aggregate of Petroleum Levy (PL) & Carbon Support Levy (CSL) which is required to be imposed under international commitments today is Rs 85/liter for Petrol as opposed to Rs 86.90/liter on 27 February 2026 (pre-war) - broadly unchanged. I understand your concern that war has imposed a lot of burden on the common man but to keep the debate balanced & fact based, it would have been better to use the relevant benchmark especially since Pakistan imports 70% of its Petrol. Also the insinuation that Government is “somehow” holding back any relief is inappropriate as published index daily readings are simply averaged for transparent announcement of prices. Pakistan deserves better from all of us; eminent opinion makers like you need to explain why the alternative would have been far worse. Inshallah as petrol prices decline globally same will translate into lower pump prices; Government stands by its commitment. In the meantime Prime Minister @CMShehbaz & Field Marshal continue to make efforts for a permanent resolution of the war. Pakistan Zindabad
