Instead of an ordinary Monday morning, Jewish children and families woke up to hate. @TeachNYS spoke with the synagogue who we’ve supported through many security grants. Thankfully, cameras were in place and captured the perpetrators. This cannot be ignored by anyone. Grateful for the elected officials who stand with our community today, because when leaders show up, it matters.
Speaker Julie Menin@SpeakerMenin

Multiple synagogues and private homes in Queens were vandalized overnight with swastikas and other antisemitic graffiti. @Lynn4NYC, @PhilWongNYC and I are at one of the sites, Congregation Machane Chodosh, in Forest Hills now. When rabbis and congregants arrived to pray this morning, they expected to be met with their usual loving community. When a family woke up, they were prepared to begin an otherwise normal week. Instead, they were met with terrifying signals of hatred and threats of violence. We have visited some of these locations and are in contact with the NYPD, which is investigating and searching for at least four individuals responsible for the terrible incidents. The graffiti will be removed once the investigation is complete. With antisemitism on the rise here and across the globe, we will always stand up for our Jewish community and fight back against hate.

Jewish schools🤝Islamic Schools🤝Catholic Schools Truly an incredible day showing @EricDinowitzNYC what our schools are all about! Our faith communities have more in common than we think. With Eric serving as @NYCCouncil Education Committee Chair, I look forward to continuing our partnership to ensure every child in NYC has access to a strong, well-supported education.

Different faiths. Shared values. One goal: strong and supported schools! We were proud to host @EricDinowitzNYC on a multifaith tour of nonpublic schools - visiting Jewish, Islamic, and Catholic schools - highlighting the impact of our schools! @NYSCatholicConf @SchechterQueens

This veto is a failure for our children. Our children deserve to enter and leave school without fear or intimidation. Full Stop. When a school is forced to close early because it can’t secure its perimeter during a protest, something is broken. This happened just a few months ago in Queens. That’s why common sense legislation like the bill put forward by @EricDinowitzNYC isn’t optional - it’s essential to protecting our children while also protecting freedom to protest.
UJA-Federation of New York@UJAfedNY

We're deeply disappointed by Mayor Mamdani’s decision to veto Intro 175, legislation that would require clear safety plans around schools. Our statement with @JCRCNY, @ADL_NYNJ, @AJCGlobal, @OrthodoxUnion, @Teach_NYS, @RabbiAssembly, @StandWithUs, @Conf_of_Pres & @URJorg.

Honored to be with @GovKathyHochul today as she announced her continued investment of the Securing Communities Against Hate Crimes grant. Not only are we front and center on the advocacy side, but our team of professionals have helped secure over $8 million a year for at risk institutions from this grant. Need assistance in applying? Email teachnys@teachcoalition.org to learn more!
Governor Kathy Hochul@GovKathyHochul

Fighting hate requires more than words — it requires action, investment, and commitment.
Our Securing Communities Against Hate Crimes program is investing up to $70 million to keep New Yorkers safe.  Because when we stand together, hate cannot divide us.

Faith based hate crimes are at an all time high with no sign of slowing down. We must stand united against this hatred and ensure our communities have the resources and security they need to stay safe. When one of us is targeted, we all show up. @NYSCatholicConf qns.com/2026/03/hate-c…

Thank you @SpeakerMenin @EricDinowitzNYC and all the @NYCCouncil members who put forth this much needed legislation. I told @JNS_org and @HoffmanJess it has been “inspiring to see faith communities unite in support of this critically needed legislative package.” “This legislative package reflects the reality that our institutions, synagogues, schools and houses of worship all require protection, ensuring safe access during protests without limiting the fundamental right to peaceful protest,”
Jessica Russak-Hoffman@HoffmanJess

BREAKING: NYC Council approves buffer zones around houses of worships, schools. While the rest of the package passed with a veto-proof majority, will Mayor Mamdani veto 175-B which addresses buffer zones at schools? jns.org/news/u-s-news/…

The math may not have been mathing but the conversations were still fascinating! Grateful to the @ManhattanInst for including the nonpublic school community in a conversation about the Future of NYC Kids. Thank you @dany_egorov for moderating the thoughtful conversation!

On Day 83 of the Mamdani administration, the Manhattan Institute jumps the gun to discuss the First 100 Days. Expect much more over the next 20 days or so, including from City & State.

We’ve seen it firsthand: working across faith communities is how real progress begins. Showing up for one another, standing together against hate, and proving that when we work across communities, we’re stronger together.
Sydney Altfield@sydneyaltfield

In my work with faith communities, I’ve seen the strength and impact of interfaith partnership firsthand. Grateful to see Catholic leaders and communities standing up against antisemitism and putting that solidarity into action. @NYSCatholicConf

We were proud to bring these students to Albany to advocate for their communities. Seeing the next generation step up, engage with leaders, and make their voices heard is what civic engagement is all about. Thank you @SenatorSutton for recognizing them!
Senator Sam Sutton@SenatorSutton

This week I was honored to recognize students from Magen David Yeshiva, Yeshivah of Flatbush, and Barkai Yeshivah in the NY Senate Chamber. These young leaders came to Albany to advocate for their schools and community. Inspiring to see the next generation engaged in democracy.

Great insights from @GSDeutch on the status of federal scholarship opt-in. One of the most consequential moments for Jewish education in America. Seeing nat’l orgs @jfederations, @AgudahNews, @TeachCoalition_ @OrthodoxUnion and others united on one issue is powerful and not to be taken for granted.
Jewish Insider@J_Insider

“The governors that we speak to on a regular basis about this are very clear that they want to see the regulations first, which we don’t hold against them. We think that’s fair. You don’t want to play a game until you see the rules of the game,” said @sydneyaltfield, CEO of Teach Coalition, a project of the Orthodox Union. Full story by @GSDeutch: ji.news/4t3db

“Last year, 41,000 students received scholarships but couldn’t use them because they simply couldn’t find a school with available space,” Great piece by @HoffmanJess highlighting why 150 students, parents, and school leaders traveled with TeachFL to Tallahassee on Tuesday. @TeachCoalition_
