@hikari_no_yume At least the ones I've used usually give you an esim from some other country that's effectively roaming in the country it's advertised for. Unless Sweden bans roaming from all countries without similar KYC requirements, I assume that gets around it.

this kind of service is interesting because they offer eSIMs for Sweden, but it is very explicitly illegal to provide a Swedish mobile network connection to someone without KYC, so I wonder which company in the chain is breaking the law and how they're getting away with it

Well this is ✨interesting✨! Turns out, macOS already supports what it needs to run Intel binaries with a non-Rosetta emulator, after Rosetta dies. It's behind a private entitlement for now, but still! Wine+FEX+ARM64EC anyone? ^^

@halilnevzat07 @thiojoe Who knows how long it'll last, but check out the English or French subs on this youtu.be/NTrm_idbhUk The styled subs allow color and positioning, making it easier to differentiate when multiple people are talking at once. Or you can just have fun like in that video.

IMPORTANT UPDATE: YouTube is SLOWLY DELETING all custom subtitles. My proudest creation and even huge companies/creators are having their subtitles totally gone, Including Hololive. @YouTube Please revert this, as more and more subtitles get removed, more people will speak up.

@JoaoBapt As expected, that's not supported. Oh well. Almost there. CPU can do heap indexing in Metal 4.0 with this, but GPU can't. Hopefully support added soon!

Why can you give my sick friend medicine but you can't give sick me medicine? After seeing its widespread use in Japanese, I feel like we're missing out.

A fun fact is that the worst writing "system" in the world is Japanese, and it's not close. Even the Japanese know this. My best friend works as a translator from Japanese to English and tells me dire stories all the time. Below is an image from Spirited Away in which by removing the second syllable in her name, "Chihiro" is somehow changed to "Sen". My friend told me of a civil court case in America in which the attorney asked him how to pronounce a certain name, and he had to say, "I don't know." The attorney started to mock his translation skills, and my friend explained that for a lot of Japanese Kanji, you cannot know how to pronounce it until you hear it, because there are multiple possibilities. Oddly enough, the best writing system in the world is Korean, and it's next door.

Side note, close/far isn't always physical space for the そ/あ distinction. It often gets used similarly to EN a vs the.)

You just do it with words that don't happen to be classified as verb tenses. e.g. if you wanted to emphasize you've *been* doing it, you might say ずっとしてるよ. Different wording for the same idea.

Sooo apparently there's this myth that only Apple has "unified memory"...? Every single modern integrated graphics system works the same way. They even share the MM code in Linux. I just had a reply guy try to argue otherwise with me even when I told him I wrote the driver 😭

I need to replace a few of the BGs in higurashi for copywrite reasons and it requires me to update over 60 different builds. Having mac/linux/windows versions of a game with 10 individually sold chapters with separate builds for steam/non steam is actually hell, don't do it.

@seanbax Every language I've used with optionals also has a lot more than pattern matching to make them ergonomic. Rust has ? and if let. Swift has optional chaining, if let, and guard let. If C++ wants people to use a type like that, it's going to need something similar.

The solution here is pattern matching. You must exhaustively visit the alternatives in a choice type, and only the engaged alternative is accessible inside a match-clause. You can't access the .some state if .none is engaged; you can't access the .none state if .some is engaged.

The CrowdStrike bug was apparently a nullptr dereference. This is one of the most common memory safety bugs encountered in C/C++ software. C++ can be fixed to make this much less common. 🧵 x.com/Perpetualmania…

@Th3mous @Perpetualmaniac Most systems specifically set the memory around 0 as inaccessible specifically because they know 0 is used for null pointers. For them to intentionally read from 0x9c, there would have to actually be something at 0x9c, in which case it wouldn't crash.

Crowdstrike Analysis: It was a NULL pointer from the memory unsafe C++ language. Since I am a professional C++ programmer, let me decode this stack trace dump for you.

REMOW has replaced the English subtitles for My Deer Friend Nokotan EP.1 on its “It's Anime” YouTube channel; hopefully they'll send to other platforms soon. A person on Reddit has pointed out that it was more like incompetent translation than AI/MTL for English. reddit.com/r/anime/commen… Note that the company barely licenses titles globally, like this show. Most of its licenses are Southeast Asia or Latin America-only, and do not use American subtitle translators/localizers. So the concern was more over those who work as English subtitlers in Asia, than “American localizers losing jobs.” Our work reporting this in English is probably done~ Back to posting in Thai as usual. From a foreigner's perspective here, it certainly is interesting to see French and German tweets against this, while the English-speaking fans' reactions are the opposite. For other international fans, feel free to us if the French, German and Spanish subs of the publisher. Thank you REMOW for taking action quickly and made the subtitles (at least) on par with your other titles.
