🚨🇬🇧 Meanwhile today in the UK Legacy media Sky News want you to believe they just happen to have their cameras out as Andy Burnham runs past. ‘They’ want this Man as next Prime Minister.

I'm a Green Party member and will be campaigning for a council by-election candidate this weekend. But, if I was in Manchester, I would be campaigning for Burnham. Stopping Reform matters far more than party politics.

First doors knocked in sunny Makerfield with @joshsimonsmp ☀️ Reform won almost all Wigan council seats up for grabs last week. But the message from voters today was crystal clear. Andy Burnham changes the equation. Fact. ✅🌹

@Spoonerspec 1. He's got a very good PR team, in all fairness he has actually done alright in Manchester 2. From polls and personal experience yes "he's one of the good ones" is one of the most powerful phrases in politics

@BROKENBRITAIN0 Burnham is a BBC agenda. If you didn't watch MSM or lived in Manchester, you wouldn't have barely heard of him. We are watching a movie play out.

🚨BREAKING: Andy Burnham has been given the green light 🇬🇧 Labours ruling body have said that Burnham is allowed to go for selection as the by-election candidate in Makerfield. Remember the bookmakers have Burnham as odds on to be the next prime minister of the UK, Starmer’s time is well and truly up.

@TedUrchin @UKLabour I've been a Mancunian all my life, I can tell you now we don't like being taken for granted. Burnham is not as popular as the media likes to portray him...he'll lose.

I’m not a betting man, but if I was, I’d say Makerfield will vote Reform. I think the mayoralty of Manchester will go to Reform too. Secretly, I almost hope they do. Despite the hype, Burnham is NOT some superman sent to save @UKLabour, far from it. This is going to go horribly wrong, and all because a few spineless wankers couldn’t hold the party line and panicked. I fucking despair. #StandWithStarmer #BackOffBurnham
Andy Burnham@AndyBurnhamGM

I can confirm that I will be requesting the permission of the NEC to stand in the Makerfield by-election. I grew up in this area and have lived here for 25 years. I care deeply about it and its people. I know they have been let down by national politics. Ten years ago, I decided to leave Westminster. Why? Because, after 16 years, I came to the conclusion that our national political system does not work for areas like ours. I learnt this fighting its failure to invest in the Wigan borough, for justice for the Hillsborough families and against its treatment of Greater Manchester during the pandemic. Over the last decade, I have been challenging this failure from the outside and building a new and better way of doing politics. We have built Greater Manchester into the fastest-growing city-region in the UK and put buses back under public control, introducing a £2 fare cap to help people with cost-of-living pressures. However, there is only so much that can be done from Greater Manchester. Much bigger change is needed at a national level if everyday life is to be made more affordable again. This is why I now seek people’s support to return to Parliament: to bring the change we have brought to Greater Manchester to the whole of the UK and make politics work properly for people. Millions are struggling and they need the Labour Government to succeed. It has already made changes to make life better for them in its first two years. After this week, we owe it to people to come back together as a Labour movement, giving the Prime Minister and the Government the space and stability they need as the by-election takes place. I want to recognise the difficult decision taken by Josh Simons and the sacrifice he and his family are making. I have worked closely with him as Mayor on issues like flooding and illegal waste dumping and have seen first-hand how effective he has been. He has put the communities of Makerfield first, made a real difference for them and should take great pride in that. Finally, I truly do not take a single vote for granted and will work hard to regain the trust of people in the Makerfield constituency, many of whom have long supported our party but lost faith in recent times. We will change Labour for the better and make it a party you can believe in again. ENDS

I'm conflicted over Makerfield by election Andy Burnham is without a doubt a better Labour leader option for UK *at this moment* than Starmer But Greens definitely have a shout at taking the seat. But Reform might if vote split. And it would leave Starmer to win ldrship again

@lukejcr @joshsimonsmp If you're involved it proves Labour under Burnham will still be the same party riddled with the same cunts.

@Stephen_rawling @55Massey @lukejcr @joshsimonsmp The Westminster elite think everyone in Gtr Manchester are Mancunians. Here in (Ashton-in-) Makerfield & Wigan we have nothing to do with Manchester and no one cares about the mayoralty Burnham is just another Labour politician looking to use us to further his career.

@goodbyeleninxcx With Burnham I'd say no he appeals to left leaning voters with his policies and right leaning voters, he doesn't look uncomfortable with a pint in a pub holding an england flag.

@TerraceThreads1 Immeasurably better than Starmer for sure, but i think the era of 2 party politics is simply dead I hope he becomes PM tbh and i hope he does a good job, but i don't think Labour are ever winning a majority like that ever again

I hate to be a downer Labour people but even if Burnham gets into Parliament and becomes prime minister, I don't think he's magically turning the clock back to 1997
