Took my wife into work today for safety sakes. It’s -45 this morning. Saw a fellow sitting in his EV at a charging station. The businesses were still closed for him to stay warm and dawdle while his car charged. I briefly spoke with him as he went into the store. He said he’s been sitting in the car running the heaters and it was taking about twice as long to charge. The car’s range was about 280km in the cold he said. The fellow said his trip to Saskatoon from Kelowna takes about 3 times longer for charging time (sitting time). His charges today were about $100 and two hours of sitting with heaters on and the battery was only 2/3 charged. He said he liked his EV, but only in summer. But he said only if it’s not too hot, AC drains batteries very fast. So, if you live in Canada, and are considering buying an EV, make sure your pockets are deep and you’re NEVER on a schedule. It's a story that you won't believe even if you saw it in an episode of "Trailer Park Boys"—except it's far less funny. I'm talking about the bewildering, confounding, and frankly shameful handling by the RCMP of their investigation into Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and his Liberal Cabinet. If you haven't heard, the allegations were as serious as they come: obstruction of justice, aimed at derailing the prosecution of a corporate giant, SNC-Lavalin. And how does our storied RCMP handle it? With the kind of urgency you'd reserve for a stale Nanaimo bar. Now, Democracy Watch, the sentinel of public conscience, managed to pry loose 1,815 pages of RCMP records under the Access to Information Act. Initially, the RCMP claimed they had only 96 pages. They later admitted to over 4,000. We've gone from comedy to farce here, folks. Where are the other 2,185 pages? Stashed away in a secure vault somewhere between Ottawa and Neverland? The pages we do have tell a tale of sloth-like efficiency. Over four years—yes, years—the RCMP spoke to a grand total of three witnesses. Were they expecting these witnesses to come carolling at RCMP headquarters, hot chocolate in hand? It seems that due diligence was put on ice, perhaps indefinitely. They called their lukewarm endeavors an "assessment" rather than an "investigation," as if they were grading a sixth-grade book report instead of probing into the alleged corruption at the highest levels of our government. The verbal gymnastics here could win an Olympic medal, but they also deceived Canadians. Now, the RCMP had what they needed to press on with obstruction of justice charges. Even a rookie lawyer fresh out of a Canadian law school would salivate at the prospects of this case. But what do they do? Suddenly, the goalposts move, and they decide they need proof of "a corrupt intent to interfere" before any prosecution could occur. This convenient shifting of standards smells more fishy than a Newfoundland trawler. And let's talk timelines. They got the investigation report in March 2021. They sat, and sat, and sat some more. It took them until January 2023 to declare that they won't prosecute anyone. Was this delay an intentional play? A strategy to hope we'd all move on, forget about it, and instead focus on the next season of "Schitt's Creek"? We're left with grave questions that can't be ignored or spun away like political rhetoric. Why did the RCMP national command sit on this powder keg? Who was responsible for these unfathomable delays? Did anyone in the Trudeau Cabinet get a heads-up, a nudge-nudge, wink-wink? And here's the biggest question of all: What were the actual legal reasons that no one was prosecuted? I'll say it, because someone has to: The situation suggests that the RCMP has become a negligently weak lapdog, rolling over for a tummy rub from the very people they are supposed to investigate. Democracy Watch's assessment is that the RCMP is more like a puppet than a police force, its strings pulled by an administration that picks its Commissioner through a process more secretive than a Masonic handshake. This leaves us with a deeply unsettling thought: Why is the RCMP covering for Justin Trudeau and his alleged corruption? Why, indeed. Canada, this isn't just a question for late-night pondering. This is a challenge to the core of our democratic values. If we don't demand action, transparency, and justice now, then we are complicit in allowing our institutions to erode into worthless entities serving the powerful, while leaving ordinary Canadians out in the cold. This, fellow countrymen and women, isn't just a disgrace. It's a national emergency. Demand answers. Demand justice. Demand Canada back. Good night, Canada. Stay vigilant. #cdnpoli
