@StuartHumphryes I worked on my auntie’s farm 75 yrs ago, 43 yrs after this film, and it was much the same, I led the horse. If you were on the hay cart, you had to watch the fork like a hawk. Those prongs. My 24 yr old cousin had just snagged his 16yo soon to be wife . . .

I've pieced together this incredibly rare & precious Edwardian colour movie, filmed 118 years ago at Upton Manor Farm in Southwick, England. This is the Autumn Harvest of 1908, showing rural life in the UK just 7 years after the end of the Victoria Era, when our life and work was considerably less mechanised. This is amongst the earliest British colour films, which was made via Kinemacolour, developed by George Albert Smith in 1906. It employed a spinning 2-colour filter system of red and green filters to replicate "full colour". The separate colour frames line up pretty well, except fo shots of lateral movement, such as the horse's legs where the individual coloured filters become much more apparent. The music I've used is the Largo movement from Dvořák's Symphony No. 9, "From the New World", which is rather ironic considering the film shows us scenes of the Old World long gone. Watch until the end, which leaves us a charming little love story. Though perhaps she waved her fellow off to War on the Western Front 6 years later... (One of my hobbies is to collect old colour film footage, and if you enjoy this example I might share a few extra videos on my account)

@jk_rowling Has Fred never thought his arguments through? “She’s an idiot so everything she says is wrong. “I disagree with her therefore I am not an idiot And everything I say must be right. Even the Romans thought that was pathetic.

Surely if Fred's doing research for a journalist he should seize this opportunity to ask me the journalist's questions? I've still got a top coat to put on these nails so I'm completely at liberty. Go for it, Fred.

Fred still has me blocked, so I rebut his opening statement thus: I am not an idiot. Very shocked he hasn't asked me how I identify before calling me a woman, though. Highly transphobic.

@jk_rowling In the 1920s to 50s they did aversion therapy, opposite aim but similar methods, strapping electrodes to brains plus chemicals. Marianne Faithfull’s g’father was an expert exponent till one day he realised to his shock, that he was a sadist, practising on compulsory madochists.

If you should see this thing on Facebook etc, allegedly designed by NASA engineers, to cool spacecrafts, be aware that it is essentially a fan, designed to waft air into your face, but is incapable of cooling a room because it cannot remove heat from the room.

@tribunaltweets I was head of a Uni group of 100 researching particle physicists, techs & engineers. I knew of LGBT group members etc in the group, but like me, they were all humans! If a situation like this had threatened, I would have called a short meeting, where only I spoke: tbc

@tribunaltweets @threadreaderapp Thank You. J: You’ve asked that question 15 times already, again & again. HH: Please let me ask it the 16th & 17th time, J. He might be so worn out I might get a different answer. J: Do not ask that question again. HH: I’d like to ask you a question . . . .

@jk_rowling But I have a supreme ecstatic life’s thrill. By virtue of Anglo-French agreement S1 form, I get access to French “NHS” who send the bill for any treatment, even that not available in UK due to cost, to UK NHS. It is exquisite to know this. Don’t tell Mr Burnham, nor the Greens.

@jk_rowling Living in France, Côte du Rhône, (pronounced Coatah du Roanah down here), which is the physics professor’s version of an eminent writer moving to Monaco, I can assure you that it does not make you immune from being outraged by what “back home” has become.

Scottish taxpayers, against the vast majority’s will, funded an attempt by the government to keep men in women’s prisons. Never have I been so tempted to move to Monaco and give all the money I’ve been paying in tax to groups fighting the rank misogyny of Swinney’s government.

Motorway 10 mins drive from me is closed. I couldn’t drive to Spain on holiday if I wanted to. Why not use non motorway roads? We are asked not to drive into the general area so I could go via Lyon and Paris. My next Spain holiday is in September.

@hermionegingol1 @tribunaltweets And let me make it clear. I have zero interest in ED’s gender orientation, the same as I have in anyone. But ED’s utterances are a mega pain in the neck. The Bard might have observed, “Methinks she doth protest way beyond human endurance.”

@hermionegingol1 @tribunaltweets I agree. It was even better that last night Belgium v Senegal. I notice that the J finished by putting ED on oath not to discuss with ANYONE. Does anyone following this riveting waste of public money think that ED will actually obey this order?

@nickwallis @jk_rowling I read these exchanges in the tribunal with incredulity & imagined myself as witness: “Yr Honour I was taught English grammar, lang & lit at an English Grammar School for 7 years. I think that if I am forced to speak this untaught grammar, my evidence may become warped. Recuse.

1m UK children diagnosed “mentally ill”. Illness = anxiety. Age 4, I ran the war from my village, Embsay & I was anxious. 1: I thought the Germans would bomb Yorks Dales. 2: We had no phone so I couldn’t call Mr Ch. Yes I was anxious. BUT I WAS NOT MENTALLY ILL.

I can hear the sharp intake of breath. “Oh, I suppose I’d better book an Uber then.” “Yup. Go ahead.” I have done my Uber research. “Most folk take the train to Avignon & then bus to here, prob 30€. And it only takes 2 hrs.” “But isn’t it hot on the bus? “Nope. Aircon. “

I get asked to pick folk up from Marseille airport. “It’s just round the corner from you, on my map.” “Yup. It’s a 4 hr round trip plus motorway tolls & airport parking & I rate my prof time at final Uni rate £75/hr, so I’ll do it for £300 collect and £300 taking you back.
