@EScrimshaw @patwayyy You can't "disagree" with a fact. They literally reduced or ignored their entire housing platform.

“The Liberals did their job today with a good budget that will do the job. The Opposition will make a lot of noise about this, but this is a budget that will be terrible to go against in an election. Which is why the NDP won’t vote against it, and we will be spared an election”

@EScrimshaw Taking a big swing on housing? They had a modest platform on housing, they have ignored half of what they promised, and now they are cutting back the little it seemed like they would do. They want to solve housing through immigration cuts? wtf is this?

@raghu_venugopal @picardonhealth Wasn't the norm for many years that IMGs start in round 2? The issue seems to be less what round you let people into, and why we don't have more family medicine spots that we let IMGs into.

@FreeJimmy5 @JeromyYYC @SonyaSharpYYC It was jammed down your throat, more people spoke out in Favour of it than in public meeting in Calgary history. Now you communists want to stop private business from building housing.

@JeromyYYC Damn, I voted at the advanced polls yesterday for @SonyaSharpYYC because her website said she will repeal the legislation. I'm going to get my wife to vote for you. This blanket rezoning was jammed down our throats and I'm very against it.

Jeromy (Pathfinder) Farkas
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE #yyccc Jeromy Farkas calls out Sharp’s blanket rezoning retreat: “A Betrayal of Voters’ Trust” Calgary, AB, October 8, 2025— Today, leading mayoral candidate Jeromy Farkas is calling out Sonya Sharp for her stunning reversal on blanket rezoning – a move he describes as “a betrayal of voters’ trust” after voting in Calgary’s municipal election has already begun. As reported by LiveWire Calgary, Sharp has retreated from her previous pledge to repeal blanket rezoning, instead proposing an “optional” or opt-in model that would require homeowners to individually apply to restore their zoning. “Let’s be clear: what Sharp is proposing is not a repeal—it’s a retreat,” said Jeromy. “Her plan puts the burden of fixing City Council’s mistake onto individual homeowners, not the Council that created the problem in the first place. This is not accountability.” Under Sharp’s so-called repeal plan, property owners would be forced to apply individually to return to their original zoning. This opt-in model creates an uneven, inequitable patchwork of land use, with some homes defaulting to rowhouse zoning, while others scramble to restore their original zoning at their own cost. “This is chaos disguised as compromise,” said Jeromy. “It leaves homeowners paying the price for City Hall’s mistakes and turns neighbourhood planning into a free-for-all. It’s a bureaucratic nightmare that leaves most residents stuck with zoning they didn’t ask for and can’t afford to fight.” “As mayor, I will work to address Calgarians’ housing needs with growth that respects our communities, restores certainty, and builds trust with City Hall.” Jeromy’s position has been consistent: • Repeal blanket rezoning in full. • Replace the “one size fits all” approach with a balanced, community-informed housing strategy that focuses new density near established activity centres and transit corridors. Jeromy Farkas’ complete housing platform is available at jeromy.ca/platform

@MikePMoffatt @GillinghamNoah Edmonton, Calgary, Red Deer…. Alberta has high unemployment and declining employment in oil and is booming because of an advantage in zoning/procedures to build housing.

Like I don't get the argument recently on this. Even if there is an AI bubble, it's still a revolutionary technology. The massive investments in it are real. Why are we trying to make it look like the GDP growth wasn't real?

Okay the categories for the tickets for the WC in Vancouver don't make much sense to me Cat 1 includes the literal best tickets (on the side) but also the ones right behind the net??? I'm glad I got cat 2 then, seems like the best safe choice

Terminally online X pundits still can't figure out why their party keeps losing. At least the CPC seems to be figuring it out now.

If @PierrePoilievre actually wanted to be Prime Minister, he would go to the Universal Ostrich Farms near Edgewood, B.C. Once there, he would park himself in the field with the ostriches and declare that the if birds are going to be killed, then they will have to kill him as well. This would drive the Liberals nuts and force them to back down. Pierre would establish himself who is a leader who is for Canadians and against the bloated government of Canada. But Poilievre will not do that. He won't even address the issue of bureaucratic overreach. He is part of the problem.

@Prominent_Bryan Maybe by "health care s free" he meant that given the government monopsony on healthcare jobs, with more money governments might just decide to give into physician trade association pressure and increase salaries rather than fund more physicians.

Today in class I was talking about this and said "if Canada was richer, we could afford more doctors for instance and save lives, so GDP matters" One student said "but healthcare is free" So we all have a LOT of teaching to do
Mikal Skuterud@mikalskuterud

With today's new population estimate, we can update Canada's real GDP per capita series. Real GDP per capita *declined* by 0.97% (annualized) between the 1st and 2nd quarter of 2025. Real GDP per capita was higher in 2019Q2 than 2025Q2. No economic growth in 6 years.

@benfowlkesMMA This seems to be modern capitalism. Start a business. Offer a good product. Relentlessly expand market share with a decent price. Then when people start to really like your stuff just suddenly pivot and charge high prices for crap.

The focus on growth effectively ended after they first sold to WME. Since then it’s been immediate monetization over everything.
SPG@SletKentDome

@benfowlkesMMA Not going to places like Spain and Africa is silly. There’s still room to grow the business but feels like they’re content and think it’s big enough.
