@redtroop222 @AdemLuz And everyone is rooting to win more of you than the other competitors. The boss wants you to be a great employee regardless of whether that means you'll be a worse spouse or friend. Time and attention are unfortunately zero sum games.

@AdemLuz parents want you to be a great son because it benefits them, being a good worker benefits the boss, any first date that saw you and wanted you to get laid, by them, was because they wanted to have sex with you. everyone is not rooting for you, everyone is rooting for themselves

Everyone is always rooting for you. Your parents want you to be a great son. Wife wants you to be a great husband. Your boss wants you to be a slam dunk hire. Every first date you’ve ever been on they’ve been rooting for you to get laid. Every time you started to tell a joke people hoped it would have a hilarious punch line. Your proximity to anyone is a reflection of themself, meaning the deck is never stacked against you, and your failures are completely your own

@DataDInvesting @ArcheValuesX It also has a lot to do with the legal and compliance friction that comes from being a chartered bank. Getting ambitious new projects approved at SoFi is a compliance nightmare. Robinhood's risk tolerance is notably higher and it's a product focused org vs. a finance focused org

@ArcheValuesX It might have something to do with that. It might have even more to do with the integration of Technisys on the back end, which won't finish until the end of this year.

Time for a more nuanced post on $HOOD and $SOFI. SoFi needs to be releasing products at a faster pace. First, some context. I'm not really worried about SoFi in the long term. They are going to continue to do what they do. They have a plan and they are executing against it, it's yielding results, their execution against the backdrop of what they've faced has been excellent. That doesn't mean that there aren't concerns, and this is a big one for me. Furthermore, most (not all) of what HOOD is releasing is actually already available on SoFi. Robinhood Strategies is functionally the same as SoFi's award-winning roboadvisor that they've had for years, albeit with better UI. And yes, UI and UX absolutely matter. APY is easily changed with the click of a button and SoFi has greater flexibility there because they aren't contracting with a third-party for the APY they offer. This isn't a real concern, if they see deposits transferring out to Robinhood (and yes, they absolutely know where that money is being transferred), they'll take action. As for the "white glove" stuff, SoFi has access to financial planners for free and you can start estate planning from the app. SoFi Relay already tracks my net worth in real time, including my Robinhood brokerage account. I could very convincingly argue that most of what Robinhood released last night was actually just copying SoFi. Several other things are probably not needle-movers for most people. The cash delivery thing is cool, but probably not going to be used or needed by most people. The tickets to exclusive events, likewise, is not particularly unique and most people don't care. The international transfers with ease and multiple accounts are one of the more requested features from SoFi and I think they will absolutely be differentiating factors for some people. It's not the offerings I'm worried about. It's the culture and the time to ship products. The reason I went so hard into SoFi is because I saw their flywheel in action when I joined in January 2020. I came for the APY and no fee banking. I ended up very quickly cross-selling into Invest, using Relay, and getting a credit card in the next several months. All of those products had been released within about one year. They were iterating fast and launching products fast. I felt like I finally had a bank that was going to be offering me services at the speed I needed them. 2021 and 2022 weren't bad either. First to market with IPO investing and the only company to offer shares in IPOs like Rivian (say what you want about the company, it was one of the biggest and most sought-after IPOs ever at the time). Award-winning best roboadvisor for 2021 and 2022 by Barron's despite only starting the entire brokerage product in 2019. The lowest margin rates available without a subscription in the market. A rewards program that was intuitive, helpful, and easy to redeem. They got their bank charter, acquired Technisys, and rolled out SoFi Plus, which tied everything together and promoted cross sell. They launched a BNPL offering and options trading in Q4 2022. The innovation and product release schedule were fast and furious. Then it all ground to a screeching halt. The pace of consumer-facing product releases slowed to a crawl. If you asked me at the end of 2022 what would be available on SoFi by now, I would have been virtually certain they'd have SMB accounts, a thriving and expanding credit card ecosystem, be offering auto loans, probably would have at least dipped their toes into offering insurance as a primary, and maybe (not likely but maybe) expanded internationally. None of that has happened. It isn't that Robinhood is offering products that are better, it's that they are offering products their user base wants, getting them out the door, and in many cases doing it before their users want them. SoFi used to do that too. A core reason I put so much into the stock was that rapid pace of product development and release. That's my concern. Why did they stop? What happened to that culture? Where is the rapid pace of product releases that we saw for years as SoFi members? Why can I still not have a separate custodial account for my kids? I want them to get their money right, but their money is sitting in a Schwab account right now, where it's been waiting to transfer to a SoFi account for 5 years at this point. Noto talked about "Cash Coach" in September of last year. Where the heck is it? This isn't a winner-take-all market, but it is a winner-take-most market. There will be multiple winners, but in order to continue to take market share, you have to continue to meet your user's needs. I fear that SoFi has lost sight of that key component that keeps it's users engaged. You can't correctly identify what moves the needle for your clientele unless you are constantly putting out products for them to try to get real user feedback in real time on real products. They want nested S-curves of growth, but to do that, they need new products to test, vet, improve, iterate on, and scale. Steve Jobs very famously told his employees that "real artists ship". He was frustrated by the endless delays and missed deadlines as his team was striving for perfection. It changed the course of that company Stop tinkering in the background. You've been iterating on Cash Coach for your own employees for more than six months. We've heard about tax filing from SoFi for years. They've been teasing and talking about SMBs as a possible vertical for just as long. True creativity and innovation isn't just about inspiration or vision, it's about completing and releasing those products to consumers. I think it's time for SoFi to step up. Real fintechs ship.
Chris Hoeger@DataDInvesting

Dear $SOFI: Get your butts in gear because $HOOD is coming for your banking clients with benefits and features that surpass the SoFi experience, including: Higher APY Accounts for every family member (SoFi can't even let you have a joint account and an individual account simultaneously) File taxes from the Robinhood app Cash delivery to your door (no ATM required) Tickets to exclusive events The time to start launching products and features was yesterday. This is coming in the Fall. Time to put up or shut up.

what is tpot? lately, i've seen people asking what is tpot, while obviously being part of it. I've also seen larger accounts explaining their version of tpot and its genealogy, which kinda felt more like gatekeeping the elite club that is this-place-on-twitter rather than trying to explain what that is. so here's my take, my half-assed and very dumb attempt to explain what tpot is to me. its story doesn't start on twitter. and no, it doesn’t begin thousands of years ago with the ancients, even if it has similarities, but roughly, as @tenobrus explained and laid out, it roughly begins with the extropians mailing list, a group of minds focused on transcending human limits and exploring the future of abundance. this was the intellectual basis that eventually mutated into the ethereal entity we now call tpot. tpot stands for this-place-on-twitter, and yeah, it's genealogy is a nerdy cocktail of mailing lists, blogs, and forums before finally morphing into the twitter cosmos (to be fair, many, if not most current people in tpot weren’t even born when this started, so no shame in not having read all of the blogs and emails). but don't get hung up on the ancestry; tpot is way more than its roots. it's everything and nothing. it does not have a physical location, yet it's mostly in the bay area. tpot has no rules, yet the unwritten code is crystal clear to those who are in it. it’s the spirit of innovation and progress. it's an enigma wrapped in a digital paradox. tpot is a vibe. it's the 21st-century salon, the virtual victorian café buzzing with intellectuals debating everything from AI to zeno's paradoxes and sisyphus’s struggles. imagine the academic lounge of yore, where professors and academics smoked cigars and drank whiskey, philosophizing into the night. that's tpot, minus the smoke (more zyn and vaping) and with more keyboards and X spaces. it's a network of a few thousand or so accounts and their adjacents spiraling around technology, philosophical thoughts, intellectually challenging and sophisticated questions, a modern curia or αδελφάτο if you will, but with dirty t-shirts instead of togas and diet cokes (or boba) instead of wine. it's where the future is brewed. politics is downstream from culture, but culture is downstream from tpot. here, in this digital pot, the outcasts, daredevils, misfits, geniuses, nerds, and retards, find common ground: a place where some of our time’s best thinkers debate. morality is a blurry line, and of course, there’s going to be scandal (see the last couple of weeks and many such cases). side note: i'm not condoning what happened: i wholeheartedly condemn and despise it, i'm just making the case that it's an inevitable consequence because that’s the whole point: exploring what’s allowed, being on the fringe of absolutely everything, trying to explore, innovate and create new things. that’s why you’ll find the best and worst of society, the border where chaos and order meet to spawn new ideas. and, as any court to be respected, of course, you’ll encounter the clowns, the courtesans (Ae**a), the witches, the knights, some Vikings, geniuses, the circus freaks, and everything in between. tpot is not an arena, it's THE arena, a free-for-all symposium where the wildest ideas clash and coalesce to shape tomorrow. that's why you cannot delete tpot, it's the ethos that has always been here since the beginning of time, the ethos of discovery and philosophical debate, which moved on twitter because of how the platform allows this to happen. and you? you don't just "enter" tpot. you discover it, resonate with it, and then realize you can never really leave. it's not an exclusive club with a velvet rope; it's a state of mind, a shared spirit that echoes the ancient societies, the extropians' forward gaze, and the relentless pursuit of understanding and progress. so, what is tpot? it's a vibe, a digital curia, a lineage of thought stretching back millennia, now digitized and evolving on X spaces. it's where the brightest minds stir the pot, questioning, creating, and forever chasing the horizon. welcome to the discourse, the chaos, the future. welcome to tpot.
