You guys keep saying generative AI. Super sampling is also generative AI. We need to make a distinction in between this and Midjourney or whatever. I already stated in my first post yesterday that I'm afraid for what Nvidia will cook next. This DLSS 5 is from my point of view amazing. The future tho will be determined by greedy suits that will see the opportunity to generate details and stuff and skip paying artists. Probably the next big leap for Nvidia will be the tech that will render stuff that doesn't exist in the scene....and that's when us will become obsolete.

After this whole debate about DLSS 5 I came to the conclusion that most of the people talking about it are completely unaware of what they don't know...they're on the peak of ignorance and don't even grasp how little they understand. They just heard generative AI and like Pavlov's dog they just start drooling thinking it's the same shit as unethical slop image generators...for the love of Christ...go and educate yourself before raging on the internet for no reason. DLLS 5 is not a prompt based generator...it's not creating stuff based on someone else's images and hallucinates results. It uses the information from the raster to build up a final render frame with the same information but with better lighting and shading... I'll even give you an example on how much of an impact better shading and lighting has. This is a character I've worked on not long ago. On the left you have a raster render, with some bad shaders. On the right you have a render with raytrace on, a much better shader for both hair and skin. They don't even look like the same person...do they? This is what DLSS5 is doing....getting a result like the one on the right(tbh a lot better) at a smaller cost than actually rendering it. Still the same geo, same textures, same light sources. Some of you will go and say the one on the left is better and it's the artist's vision. It's not...it's just the artist's limitation due to shading and lighting constrains. Every single artist out there would love to get the right result in real time.

If some game studios used previous versions of DLSS as a crutch to hit performance targets while skipping optimization. Then you can bet that they're going to use DLSS 5 as a crutch too to skip art direction altogether

"The AI model powering DLSS 5 is a single unified model. Same model for every game. It's not trained per-title, per-face, or per-object type." Why are Nvidia claiming developers have full control over the artistic intent of DLSS 5 output when it uses a unified model that isn't trained per game? Surely this would mean DLSS 5 output would converge to the same type of visuals across games, removing artistic intent/touch. Just as we see from current gen AI tools Giving developers true, full artistic control would surely mean having specific models for each game trained only on that studio's assets?

@darkwolf1d1 @IGN There is a major difference, yes. It looks substantially better in ways very hard to replicate. The artists can handle the style while the tech can handle the rendering fidelity, as always. But people are slow to change and like to lash out.
