The self-employed are the people we need to lead us out of the recession – to punish them right now would be like shooting your star striker’s right foot just before they take a penalty. The Government MUST offer them the same support that they are giving to furloughed workers.

Welcome news about furlough extension- although it is not extended long enough. But what about self-employed workers, including #excludedUK - Boris Johnson has left millions of people with no idea how they will pay bills, heat their homes or feed their families.

This does not include #ExcludedUK nor is it long enough. Support needs to be in place as long as public health measures are in place or @RishiSunak and @BorisJohnson will be condemning folk to unemployment. Rather than congratulating yourself take responsibility, show leadership.

Saving lives is the priority, but preventing hardship is vital too. Furlough extension is a relief, but self employed and previously excluded groups need clarity now or else they will fear that they won’t be able to pay the rent/mortgage or feed their kids.
