People are looking for leaders who connect with them, speak with sincerity, and offer a vision beyond personality politics. Today on #MorningJoe, we discussed America’s history, the ongoing fight over truth and equity, and why we cannot allow this country to move backwards. We cannot celebrate 250 years of America without telling the full story. When the Declaration of Independence was signed, Black people were enslaved, women could not vote, and only white male landowners had rights. Progress did not happen on its own. It came through sacrifice, organizing, protest, bloodshed, and generations who pushed this nation to live up to its promises. As attacks on voting rights, redistricting, DEI, and historical truth continue, we must remain bold and unapologetic in defending the progress that was fought for. That is why this August 28, we will return to Washington to continue that fight and remind this nation that democracy moves forward only when people are willing to stand up and demand it. The struggle continues, and so must we.

Yesterday, hundreds of union members protested @bradlander for blaming them for the housing crisis that happened on his watch. Brad was only “pro-labor” when he thought it would get him support. When the vast majority of labor unions in NYC endorsed me over him, he turned his back on them. There’s a reason working families in NY-10 overwhelmingly support me — I do the work and deliver results, and I will never abandon them.

Today on #MorningJoe, I joined the table to discuss the ongoing redistricting battles across the South and the continued fight to protect Black political representation and voting rights. The gains of the civil rights movement and the Voting Rights Act did not happen by accident. People organized, stayed on the ground, built coalitions, and fought for justice. As new efforts emerge to redraw districts and weaken representation, we must remain vigilant, organized, and willing to build alliances without compromising our principles.

After being pepper sprayed by ICE agents outside a NJ detention facility on Monday, @SenatorAndyKim said the agents absolutely knew they were firing on a U.S. senator. Totally outrageous.

Senator Padilla is absolutely right: the people who tried to overthrow our government and attacked police don’t deserve a taxpayer-funded payout. We’ll keep fighting to ensure this never happens. op: @alexpadilla4ca
