@DrNickA Its danger is tribalism and inward looking perspective - as it stands from what I see it’s just a slightly decentralised private corporate model. Its threshold is enclosed it needs to be more porous as a bounded commons. Setting the terms of care with outside of itself

This was a really nice event. The best thing about London is that I'm basically a 30 minute tube ride away from some real culture. The Barbican is such a cool place. A few things that were themes of this chat. How is humanness changing as we increasingly morph with technology? How do we reconnect the "togetherness" that technology mostly strips away from us? We've seen the broad destruction of community as both technology and the markets individuate is into singular economic actors, hooked into the dopamine drip. This is where I've always imagined DAOs would step in. @wassimulacrum is diving into a critique of the network state, framing it as the new crusades. It's the latest manifestation of the neo-libertarian dream, sovereignty through regulatory arbitrage. Exit from the state , but into what? Are we heading into a neo-feudal power dynamic as nation states collapse and decay? How will new technologies reframe our understanding of reality? As quantum technologies start to manifest, what is our understanding of what reality is? Is there such a thing as objective reality? Will technology allow us to manipulate reality? How can we become 'hyperhumans'? Will technologies allow us to augment and hack our experience? What is conciousness and how do ancient technologies like meditation and psychedelics match up with contemporary technologies? Will technology give us a new insight into nature and the animal kingdom? Will we be able to communicate with animals and nature using AI? Will we find out they absolutely hate us when we do? Broadly, the theme was "what is Utopia?" Interestingly, I learned from Wassim that Utopia originally came from a book by Thomas More called Utopia about an idealised society on a fictional island. The word comes from the Greek words, 'no place'. Utopia is unobtainable. It doesn't exist and can't ever exist. More was making a play on words with another meaning eutopia, meaning "good place." Utopian thinking is a fools errand. It's time to just start aiming for good. That would be novel in this day and age. Protopia, over Utopia is the way forward.

@danhind @mitulkanji We are missing a sector which sits between private and public sector and is citizen-led. The invention of this which I actively write on LinkedIn is where these reforms can happen. Mega systemic change that requires blockchain and other tech to realise

@mitulkanji Who knows what snake oil he'll be peddling in 3 years time. Trouble is the system at the moment doesn't really select for people who do have a clue. How much of an opportunity do we ever have to figure out how competent leading figures in the main political parties are?

The Chinese have released a LLM that makes a mockery of the UK's plan to build big data centres that use all our fresh water and energy, less than 2 weeks after Starmer warbled on about us becoming an AI superpower. While it's very funny, it also points to something important ...

@RoryStewartUK How about everyone coming together and actually address our planetary issues. These immature pissing contests are ridiculous but perhaps in world of boys it’s appropriate. I hope we have a planet for boys to decide who will be emperor

DeepSeek has just inverted in an instant some of the most fundamental assumptions about the U.S. lead in technology, the global economy, and the future of energy. It has upended basic predictions from Silicon Valley and the Trump administration on the U.S. lead in the global economy. And it has done so almost overnight. What next….?

@BowlOfMice @yourivdperk I think you are spot on. Now everyone has to understand it and decide what side of history they want to be on. My husband is German and found his grandfather was a Nazi and this trauma lives on with next generations of our children. Ego and power will destroy us

Musk attacking the governments of Germany, UK, and France and supporting far right parties to take over. Trump threatening to invade everyone. To all appearances, we are seeing the rise of a global cabal set about to turn "the West" into a giant Fascist Oligarchy 1/

Happy Birthday to Blockchain Radicals!🎉 It's been 1 year since my book came out and the results have been good. I've sold out all of my books every time I've gone to a conference to directly talk to people in the space, confirming that there is a market for it. 🧵

How sick are these people? Former US Vice President @Mike_Pence writing a message on US weapons that will be dropped on civilians in Gaza. The people in the pic are smiling and taking photos like it's a pizza party. Shame on them. @CIJ_ICJ @UN_HRC @UN

muslim and arab (especially palestinian) colleagues in the tech community i've spoken with feel uncomfortable speaking about their recent experiences, often out of fear of retaliation and damaged career prospects. our industry should be united in our support of these colleagues; it is an atrocious time. i continue to hope for a real and lasting peace, and that in the meantime we can treat each other with empathy.

Today is the 75th anniversary of the Genocide Convention, the first human rights treaty adopted by the UN General Assembly in 1948. When these pages were signed by world leaders, hundreds of Palestinian villages were in the process of being forcefully depopulated and demolished.

This madness in Germany is extremely scary. German academics are supporting the discourse of another genocide due to the guilt of world war 2. I was unfriended by German academics who are supporting Israeli atrocities which has liked over 12,000 civilians - I suggest therapy

Wait what? A lecture by Phoebe Walton of @ForensicArchi sister organization @counterinv on the Dutch police killing of a German man in Amsterdam cancelled by @rwth after we have been described as an antisemitic organisation for our human rights work in Palestine.
