@TramRightsForum @DevChoudhuri @56Dbhau Trams are gayer than Karan Johar’s wardrobe. They are inefficient, slow, low capacity, accident prone and only luddites like them. Only saving grace of them is that they are cheaper to build but so is light metro and that has much higher capacity. Facts.

@jimmy_vij @DevChoudhuri @56Dbhau Hey kiddo!!! Have a look at this... Traffic exists because of huge number of private vehicles. Now it's upto you whether to get this simple fact or keep yapping like a miserable pathetic troll !!! We rest our case. x.com/TramRightsForu…

PROPAGANDA AGAINST TRAMS - THEY ARE THE REASON FOR TRAFFIC CONGESTION. If this fact was true, then Kolkata would already have been a traffic free city, since trams only run on two routes, that too with a very low frequency.

@DevChoudhuri @56Dbhau Thats not how you encourage people to use public transport. Thats how you introduce traffic jams on the roads.

@56Dbhau Unpopular opinion - Trams are gay. They are slow, low capacity and they block too much road area. A grade separated metro is much better.

🚋WHAT IF THIS IS HOW KOLKATA SAVES ITS TRAMS? ⚡️ 🇨🇳 China is already experimenting with “trackless trams” — tram-like electric vehicles running on normal roads using virtual guidance systems instead of traditional rails. The vehicle can carry 500 passengers and reach speeds of 70 km/h. The future of Kolkata transport may not be choosing between “old trams” and “no trams.” It may be reinventing the tram entirely. #KolkataTrams

@SandipGhose Honestly Trams should be done away with... They create more chaos on the roads and serve no purpose

Trams can surely be revived but not with these antiquated system and old carriages. Need new tracks and equipments. But who will clear the roads and manage traffic in a chaotic metropolis? A showpiece tourist stretch would serve no purpose. #Kolkata #KolkataTrams #KolkataMetro

@TOIIndiaNews 14th May' 2026 @Calcutta_Times Talking point of the town A tram carries far more people per metre of road than private cars, runs on electricity, reduces pollution, improves road safety and supports a more walkable city. Around the world, cities are bringing trams back as modern urban transport. Trams aren’t obsolete. They are underutilised. With barely 10 trams running out of nearly 250, Kolkata risks losing not just heritage, but a sustainable mobility system that can reduce congestion and reconnect neighbourhoods. Revive and modernise routes like Ballygunge–Tollygunge, Esplanade–Shyambazar, BBD Bagh–Sealdah and connect them seamlessly with Metro, buses and walking infrastructure. The future of Kolkata cannot be endless flyovers and more cars. It has to be efficient people movement. @SuvenduWB @SandipGhose @swapan55 #SaveKolkataTrams #TramRevival #WalkableKolkata #PublicTransport #SustainableMobility #ReviveKolkataTrams

@carvalho_mike @SandipGhose The main intent of reviving trams is to decongest the roads. Keeping a check on rising number of 2/4-wheelers is badly needed. Weist reduce the traffic density by bringing trams back on the roads with quality service.

@SandipGhose Trams cannot work in cities with high traffic density like ours. It may work in new, well planned townships with wide roads and managed spaces.

@SandipGhose Execution may look difficult, but it is not impossible. A proper plan is required. The state of trams in Kolkata are at negative state, huge effort is required to bring them back to their normal operation, gradually things can be changed.

A main-page article in The Times of India has highlighted how Trams are not just heritage, but a necessity for the city’s future. The time has come to preserve, modernise and bring the trams back to the streets where they truly belong. We request Hon. CM @SuvenduWB to look !!

PROPAGANDA AGAINST TRAMS - TRAMS ARE OUTDATED, FLYOVERS ARE THE SOLUTION ! This statement itself is outdated now, as many cities across the world used to think the same, and regretted later. In France, they even broke down a flyover and constructed a new tram route.

@swapan55, let’s collaborate to develop a plan for integrating trams, particularly from Tollygunge to Ballygunge and Kalighat, with Mominpur. Tollygunge Depot → Rashbehari → Ballygunge → Gariahat integration A realistic tram revival can start with:
Ballygunge–Tollygunge restoration Tollygunge–Ruby connectivity
Tollygunge–Mominpur corridor Integrated with walking, buses & Metro, these routes can reduce congestion, pollution and improve mobility for lakhs daily. uitp.org/wp-content/upl…#SaveKolkataTrams #Kolkata #Trams #SustainableTransport

Lent my weight to the campaign to keep trams in Kolkata. It is important to ensure that this symbol of the city’s identity is preserved.

Honourable CM @SuvenduWB , this is the moment to stand for Kolkata’s soul. In this transport crisis, trams are not a burden they are a lifeline. Clean, electric, affordable and built for the city’s dense streets. please immediately restart tram services on the Ballygunge–Tollygunge–Kalighat corridor. These routes are not just heritage lines — they are essential public transport links connecting dense residential areas, markets, metro stations and hospitals. In today’s traffic and fuel crisis, trams are a boon for Kolkata: eco-friendly, affordable and space-efficient Please do not let the heritage and future of Kolkata disappear together. The Hon’ble High Court has already directed revival efforts. We, the citizens and working across , are ready to assist in every possible way for the revival and modernisation of the Tramways of Calcutta. Kolkata was never built for endless private cars. It was built around walking, trams, buses and rail. Revive the tram. Save sustainable mobility. Save the city’s identity. #ReviveTrams #CalcuttaTram #SaveKolkata #SustainableTransport

@SuvenduWB Electric buses are welcome, but why complete silence on Kolkata trams? If fuel saving, clean transport, and sustainable mobility are priorities, why ignore an existing electric transit system? Routes like 24/29, 36, and even corridors linked with upcoming metro connectivity such as Chingrighata could be reconsidered with modern planning. Will your vision for West Bengal be copy-paste from other states, or a Bengal-specific model integrating tram + metro + electric bus? What is your stand on tram modernisation? #SaveKolkataTram @CPIM_WESTBENGAL @INCWestBengal @BJP4India @BJP4Bengal @MamataOfficial @IamSumanDe @narendramodi @AmitShah @RoopaSpeaks @swapan55 @VaibhavNam63318 @_CTUA_ @pbhakat

The Kolkata tram is currently operational on only 2 routes. >Gariahat - Esplanade >Esplanade - Shyambazar It is already shut down. These 2 lines are just for symbolism.

@Blasty424 It's really not that easy as it seems to shut down !!! The former govt was adamant to shut them down for their own vested interest. But they had failed since numerous cases are going on in this issue. Don't worry, we won't let them go.

@TramRightsForum Even if certain routes could sustain tram, most wouldn't, making tram infra more costly. Most parts would be proprietary. If dispute arise with vendor, it will become more costly. Trams are for lower density, vast/cheap land owning countries, not Kolkata

@kanodia_ya68430 In the long run, maintenance cost for Tramways are much lesser, and and trams have much longer lifetime than buses. Regarding vendors, markets for trams can be created as well. Also, trams are most suitable for dense cities like Kolkata.
