@TramRightsForum @DevChoudhuri @56Dbhau Trams are gayer than Karan Johar’s wardrobe. They are inefficient, slow, low capacity, accident prone and only luddites like them. Only saving grace of them is that they are cheaper to build but so is light metro and that has much higher capacity.

PROPAGANDA AGAINST TRAMS - THEY ARE THE REASON FOR TRAFFIC CONGESTION. If this fact was true, then Kolkata would already have been a traffic free city, since trams only run on two routes, that too with a very low frequency.

🇨🇳 China is already experimenting with “trackless trams” — tram-like electric vehicles running on normal roads using virtual guidance systems instead of traditional rails.
The vehicle can carry 500 passengers and reach speeds of 70 km/h.
The future of Kolkata transport may not be choosing between “old trams” and “no trams.”
It may be reinventing the tram entirely.

@carvalho_mike @SandipGhose The main intent of reviving trams is to decongest the roads. Keeping a check on rising number of 2/4-wheelers is badly needed. Weist reduce the traffic density by bringing trams back on the roads with quality service.

@SandipGhose Execution may look difficult, but it is not impossible. A proper plan is required. The state of trams in Kolkata are at negative state, huge effort is required to bring them back to their normal operation, gradually things can be changed.

This statement itself is outdated now, as many cities across the world used to think the same, and regretted later. In France, they even broke down a flyover and constructed a new tram route.

PROPAGANDA AGAINST TRAMS - Their tracks cause accident of two-wheelers. There is a protocol to ride a two-wheeler on tram tracks, which unfortunately a huge fraction of bikers don't know. Take utmost care while driving on tram tracks instead of lamenting about it.

PROPAGANDA AGAINST TRAMS - They are not suitable for a densely populated city like Kolkata. It really feels sad to see that a huge fraction of "educated class" believe this dumb statement. Regulate the cars, run trams frequently, and one can see a drastic reduction in traffic.

@TramRightsForum Even if certain routes could sustain tram, most wouldn't, making tram infra more costly. Most parts would be proprietary. If dispute arise with vendor, it will become more costly. Trams are for lower density, vast/cheap land owning countries, not Kolkata

@kanodia_ya68430 In the long run, maintenance cost for Tramways are much lesser, and and trams have much longer lifetime than buses. Regarding vendors, markets for trams can be created as well. Also, trams are most suitable for dense cities like Kolkata.
