There is video circulating on social media of a group of ICE agents beating a man near 26th and Nicollet in south Minneapolis, then one of the ICE agents shoots the man while he's on the ground numerous times. A witness can be heard yelling that the victim is dead.

While as a father I certainly understand President @JoeBiden’s natural desire to help his son by pardoning him, I am disappointed that he put his family ahead of the country. This is a bad precedent that could be abused by later Presidents and will sadly tarnish his reputation. When you become President, your role is Pater familias of the nation. Hunter brought the legal trouble he faced on himself, and one can sympathize with his struggles while also acknowledging that no one is above the law, not a President and not a President’s son.

@chamath That's assuming that the wealthy sell their security/assets but they don't to avoid capital gains. Instead they hold/hog on by taking in more through loans. If there is no income tx, u will lower the salary on your employees and make more. Wealthy are not some Messiah.

As one accumulates wealth, their earnings typically shift radically from income to securities and assets. Said differently, they rely less on income and more on equity appreciation. As such, if the wealthy wanted to benefit themselves the most in tax policy, they would advocate for a lower capital gains tax (or none at all) and modified depreciation or rollover rules, not zero income tax. So whenever you see a proposal for zero income tax, please try to consider that this benefits lower, lower-middle, middle and upper middle incomes THE MOST. And it forces the government to abide by lower inflows and be more modest in how the spend your money.

Getting Americans & their representatives to decline funding the government has ALREADY promised them, and that they fought hard to get, is going to be an extremely difficult task. DOGE is going to require collective sacrifice and a culture switch from: “I need to get mine!!!” to “we can get by with less” — or even better: “we don’t need a handout, we’ll do this ourselves” Culture shifts are very hard, but it feels like this one is gaining momentum And if you’re part of the 73m who voted for Kamala and the dems, or the 76m who voted for Trump and JD, this is a way for y’all to positively work together to lower taxes and stop wasting money — and eventually balance the budget! Those are things ALL Americans want

@Timodc By the way, when I say stop the focus on minorities, it does not imply leaving those issues behind. It just can't be front and center. We should win on the economy but still lose that argument every time.

@Timodc Democrats need to stop playing identity politics and focusing on minorities until we have a solid, unmovable coalition that helps win a majority. We want to win everything with our hands tied behind our backs (Electoral College, voter suppression, gerrymandering, etc.)

My main thought: We're probably going back, but we can't go anywhere. Our era will be about protecting their attempts to dismantle the progress that was made in the last century or so. It's a more sober mission than pushing for progress but it is an important one. ☮️
