@PiddingtonRoars My apologies - there are two Tim McNally councillors. That said, if its a Lib Dem council then the Lib Dem view is 180 degree opposite of yours. My local area almost all the shop work is going to people from overseas during a period of record unemployment for young people.

🚨 THE PLUCKY VILLAGE THAT REFUSES TO BE IGNORED 🇬🇧 Today, Piddington welcomes Sky News. They are coming to our village to hear first-hand about the impact of the Government’s proposal to accommodate 1,250 asylum seekers at Bicester MOD Site A on the doorstep of our small Oxfordshire community. On Monday, we will also publish our OPEN LETTER to the Prime Minister, Andy Burnham, on his first day in office and as he begins assembling his Cabinet. Our message to the new Government is simple: We mean business. We are not going away. We will not be ignored. But above all, we want a solution. We are organised. We are determined. We are standing together — and we will use every lawful and democratic means available to ensure the voice of our village is heard. We may be small. We may be the underdogs. But never underestimate the resolve of a community fighting for its future. @BitcoinBertie @MPrinParr I had no idea who he was but started looking at his figures - In the South East his tables of LVT 'possibilities' put suburbs at 50% of the inner city London rates (I think its 15-35%). He wouldn't discuss figures, only point to his methodologies, which looked questionable tbh.

@MPrinParr Honestly, makes you question *everything* he’s ever written and taken at face value. The ultimate block and run - and he’s one of the “experts” regarding tax. We’re in for an awful few years aren’t we, when even he can’t engage on something that actually he’s misunderstood.

Max Tax Dan living up to his nickname. And fundamentally missing the point on LVT. When he can’t understand, and would rather block me, then there’s little hope for politicians understanding it either. Dumb.

More than 70,000 retired public sector workers are on pensions above £50,000 a year, and almost 4,000 enjoy more than £100,000 annually – guaranteed, inflation‑linked, backed by the full power of the state. These aren’t one‑off anomalies; they are a structural feature of a system designed to shower the top of the public sector with lifetime security, regardless of economic reality for everyone else. Try telling a delivery driver, a care worker, or a small‑business owner who’s never had a pension that they must subsidise five‑figure and six‑figure state‑sector pensions forever because “the rules say so”. Try telling a generation locked out of home ownership that they must accept higher taxes and worse services so a political and bureaucratic class can retire early on packages the private sector stopped offering years ago. Yes, many ordinary public‑sector workers retire on modest pensions. That truth is routinely weaponised by defenders of the system to obscure the existence of this pension aristocracy at the top – the people whose lavish deals drive the biggest costs, whose interests Labour is most keen to protect, and whose comfort is quietly prioritised over the needs of struggling families staring at rising tax bills and decaying public services.

@ImperioEstoico I think parts of Thailand operate like this as a normal practise. Honestly I can't really see the issue as long as the price difference remains relatively in check so its affordable for tourists. If locals are not the priority in a nation, something has gone wrong.

@PolitlcsUK I wonder how many undiagnosed early onset dementia patients we'll have in the workforce after 2037. Let's hope bus drivers get a decent enough staff pension to go earlier.

@sequentanalyst Not hearing many talk about how damaging this constant rug pulling every year effecting all and every possible investment anyone can make is. Making the young think why bother at all, can’t plan or rely on anything so save the hassle and not bother building anything.

@investygirl @sequentanalyst Its unbearable tax terrorism on anyone working or who owns anything. Not feeling able to plan is very damaging.

I just can’t get past the inequity and injustice for those who have bought, not accumulated housing wealth. If you’re in your 30s and have a £1-1.5m house, you live in an expensive area, you don’t have housing wealth to be taxed. The taper wouldn’t compensate negative equity.
Dan Neidle@DanNeidle

Stamp duty and council tax are terrible taxes. Land value tax could replace both - and Andy Burnham has backed it for 16 years. Who wins? Who loses? What happens to house prices? LVT could drive growth. But it isn’t easy. Our model shows its promise - and its problems.

@mark_orlow @JamesP728 Good grief. You think everyone wants to work round the clock and squirrel everything away and its a matter of only education that they don't? Benefits is a career now - people post Tik Toks where they rage bait, show cash and tell tax payers to get back to work for them.

@JamesP728 @TrentePercente Its frightening the level of financial illiteracy in the country. It should be taught at school rather than a reliance on parents for whom are also non the wiser.....

No one should rely on the state pension and frankly if you’re under 40 it shouldn’t even come into your planning The goal posts will keep getting moved and it will be scraped before we get it This is why we invest - S&S ISA, SIPP, Workplace pension - it doesn’t matter, just make sure you’re not relying on the government for your retirement

@DanNeidle My final thought on this: I work a 7 day week, 2 jobs. If I am ever taxed to the point I have to take debt on my home to subsidise people working less hours, anger doesn't even cover it - I'll be leaving. There must be loads like me & those taxes will never come back.

I have persuaded at least one person that land value tax is the way forward:
Mo 🇮🇱🎗@Moshe_89

@DanNeidle According to your model, I will pay an extra £7.6k a year in LVT and see my house price drop an estimated 20%. Where do I sign up?

@StuartFrazer @kateferguson4 Yes my own children and my niece will fall into that category. But over taxing working to middle class Londoners to a degree they cannot pay is playing with fire. A soft crash, I'd take the hit for the next generation, but a hard crash would be dumb.

@StuartFrazer @kateferguson4 So you could wind up with a £90k house up North, losing 1/3 its value - £30k, but then saving £1-2 a year for a few years until another government comes in and changes it again. Would that be good?

@StuartFrazer @kateferguson4 So as an example, a housing crash in the South East coupled with unemployment could spiral to Northern homes and they often become the most illiquid at the end of a crash, never regaining their value. Remember the £1 houses up North? That would be regressive.

@StuartFrazer @kateferguson4 I accept that people in £3m houses should pay more tax than people in £90k houses, but the report proposes taxes of £6-10k p/a on properties worth £500-800k in London suburbs - a demographic who can probably neither move nor afford it. That could decimate house prices everywhere.

@Sinbad666 From Dan '1. Be careful with comparisons per dwelling; the correct comparison is per m2. Big difference.' m2 cost of land..Westminster = £15600, Sutton = £5,000. So how do you get a Band G LVT for Sutton that is is 50% of the Westminster Band G LVT, instead of 33%? Do you know?
