@Cazzimmax @danielebanfi83 Mr Banfi, based on the 2019 Argentina case with the now infamous NEJM article on Super-Spreaders,wouldn’t it be justified to say that while it’s good it’s not further mutated, the base version that caused the 11 deaths in the Argentinian village is bad enough if it spreads in 🇪🇺?

@danielebanfi83 Esatto e perciò è praticamente improbabile la human to human trasmissione -molto probabilmente chi si è infettato si infettato sulla nave che molto probabilmente aveva/ha un’infestazione di ratti.

@rivm @lienwsn Ik waardeer uw reacties.

@JPWeiland The Dutch are putting their ship passengers back into their homes (shared with flatmates, family who won’t be under quarantine), and don’t enforce it physically only have a phone call a day and temperature measurements. Seems like a recipe for disaster.

Even though I don't think Hantavirus will become the next pandemic, public health needs to step up immediately to control the outbreak. ▶️Full contact tracing ▶️Quarantine of contacts&cruise passengers ▶️Serial testing contacts ▶️Full PPE (respirators, coveralls) for caregivers

@BarryKarper @Porkchop_EXP The problem with this equation is that you now isolate ~40 people strictly, or take a gamble that you later need to sell society level measures because it got out of hand. Better to restrict a few now than many later

Mearsheimer out at Hungarian Institute of Foreign policy. Does that mean Timothy Snyder will be in? I hope not. But the person of the rumoured new appointee replacing Gladden Pappin, Ukraine-expert András Rácz might just mean that.
Balázs Orbán@BalazsOrban_HU

For three years, I had the honor of serving as the government official responsible for the work of the Hungarian Institute of International Affairs, upon the request of Prime Minister Viktor Orbán. In the attached photo, I am speaking with one of the most prominent American realist foreign policy thinkers, @MearsheimerJ, at an international conference organized by the @HIIA_hungary. I have never hidden my belief that Hungary should not simply obey to the system, but rather pursue an independent, realist foreign policy built on national interests. The Hungarian Institute of International Affairs - which had been far less visible in the preceding years - has worked tremendously hard over the past three years to map the opportunities and challenges facing Hungarian foreign policy, while also building genuine and vibrant international networks. I had the privilege of working with brilliant analysts and learned a great deal from them. I am proud that we were able to increase the Institute’s previously inadequate budget severalfold, and that the renovation of the Institute’s building will soon be completed. As a result, the Institute will finally be able to leave the rented premises where it had long been confined. Everything is now in place for the Hungarian Institute of International Affairs to become an important governmental policy institution for a proud country pursuing an independent foreign policy. I wish them every success in the years ahead.

@Earendil2424 The things that Magyar is asking for right now are only extended to official languages. Do you think Canadians can have court documents in Ukrainian because there are a bunch of Canadian Ukrainians here? (I'm not one of them, btw, and I don't know why you're presuming I am)

Pressuring Ukraine to grant official status to minority languages has nothing to do w European values. Respect for minority rights and official language status are two different things. Most EU states have only one official language even when they have many linguistic minorities.

Maybe it's not good to start a new page of bilateral relations by blaming Ukraine for made-up issues…
Magyar Péter (Ne féljetek)@magyarpeterMP

I am initiating consultations with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in early June in Transcarpathia. I received Zoltán Babják, Mayor of Berehove, in my office, who briefed me on the situation of Hungarians in Transcarpathia and the horrors of the war. We agreed that it is in the interest of Hungarians living in Transcarpathia to place Hungarian–Ukrainian relations on new foundations. Based on the above, I am initiating a meeting with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in early June, symbolically in Berehove, a Hungarian-majority town. The aim of the meeting is to improve the situation of Hungarians in Transcarpathia and to support their ability to remain in their homeland. The time has come for Ukraine to put an end to the restrictions that have been in place for more than a decade, and to ensure that Hungarians in Transcarpathia regain all their cultural, linguistic, administrative, and higher education rights, so that they can once again become equal and respected citizens of Ukraine. This would also help ensure that, once the war has ended, as many Hungarians from Transcarpathia as possible can return to their homeland. If we can resolve these issues, we can certainly open a new chapter in Hungarian–Ukrainian bilateral relations. The concessions announced by the Ukrainian government in 2025 in the field of education are a step in the right direction, but they are not sufficient. Higher education in Ukraine remains monolingual, final examinations are conducted in Ukrainian, and there has been no meaningful change in other areas of official language use. It remains the case that official language use in Ukraine is strictly limited to a single language. In public administration, in the courts, and in official procedures, only Ukrainian may be used. The Hungarian minority cannot request official administration in their mother tongue, not even in settlements with a Hungarian majority. Restrictions also remain in public life and culture: Hungarian-language events and media outlets are allowed to operate, but under quotas and burdensome registration and formal requirements. In public appearances, officials — such as school principals or mayors — are still not free to use their mother tongue. From here, I encourage the Ukrainian leadership to take bold steps in these areas as well, in the direction of European values and genuine freedom and equality. I assured the Mayor that our compatriots in Transcarpathia can count on the full support of the mother country and of a TISZA government. I hope to soon be able to accept his kind invitation to Berehove. I am ready.

@BIforPeace @UA_SpaceMarine @RyanO_ChosenCoy I understand why such topics come off as suspicious given they’ve been in a war of survival for 4 years. I hope the leadership is more measured indeed and they’ll educate their populace on all this after as well. Magyar’s asks are entirely reasonable, an easy win for both states

@UA_SpaceMarine @BIforPeace @RyanO_ChosenCoy I agree with you but realistically the language rights question is part of your EU accession too. These are minority language rights guaranteed under European charters - which Ukraine signed. You’re not giving up anything by allowing ~150,000 people speak their language.

@BIforPeace @RyanO_ChosenCoy The "new border" is from 1920 and reinstated in 1947 after Hungary sided with Nazi Germany. If Hungary cares about Ukrainians with a Hungarian background you should send military aid so they can defend themselves from russia.

@RyanO_ChosenCoy @nigelcrapspray The Ukrainian minority in Hungary is 25,000 people, most are not locally born but transplants moving into the country. Hungarians in Ukraine are a historic minority, due language rights based on the European Charter for Regional or Minority Languages - which Ukraine signed.

Because it was not along ethnic lines. One underdiscussed fact about Trianon is that the bordering region had 2 million magyars. Ethnically Hungarian and culturally important town like Kassa, Nagyvárad, Arad, Szabadka, Szatmárnémeti, but areas like Csallóköz was a big loss

Another example of revanchism I can't understand is Trianon. If we look at ethnic map of Austro-Hungary we can see that Hungary with minor exceptions was basically divided by ethnic borders. I genuinely can't understand why do Hungarians treat it like some sort of genocide

Hungary is living its #Syria's December 7 moment.
Magyar Péter (Ne féljetek)@magyarpeterMP

Orbán-linked oligarchs are transferring tens of billions of forints to the United Arab Emirates, the United States, Uruguay, and other distant countries. I am aware that Hungary’s National Tax and Customs Administration (NAV), based on reports from banks, has suspended several high-value transfers linked to Antal Rogán’s circle on suspicion of money laundering. I call on the leadership of NAV to immediately freeze these stolen funds. I once again call on the Prosecutor General, the National Police Chief, and the head of NAV to detain the criminals who have caused thousands of billions of forints in damage to the Hungarian people, and not to allow them to flee — before the formation of a TISZA government — to countries from which extradition is currently not possible. I am also aware that Orbán-linked oligarchs have begun selling TV2 and other media outlets at below-market prices, including the Rogán-linked propaganda flagship, Lounge Event Kft. I call on responsible domestic and international investors to refrain from acquiring assets linked to the mafia; otherwise, they may find themselves facing the National Office for Asset Recovery and Protection. I have also been informed that several oligarch families have already left the country, and that the Mészáros family is expected to travel to Dubai in the coming days. According to reports, several influential oligarch families have already withdrawn their children from school and are arranging trusted security personnel for their departure.
