“The NTA will introduce town bus services in all towns in Ireland with a population of over 10,000, beginning with Carlow town in 2022.” ➡️ Towns such as Youghal (8k) and Bandon (7k) may just miss out, pending the results of the 2022 Census.

Shouting matches on the side of the road are not inevitable In our submission to the NTA's transport strategy, we suggested a safe, segregated greenway from Trim to Athboy via the Gaeltacht at Ráth Cairn 💚 Beatha teanga í a.. róráil tríd an fhuinneog ag tiománaí dainséarach 🤗

Essentially, what this plan is saying is that it expects children to cycle on roads alongside cars, trucks and buses, but that is ok because it will be shared on a carriageway with reduced width and speeds which will 'increase comfort and safety'. 6/

@Trim_SEC @TrimTourismN We hope this is an oversight by the NTA! There were several errors in the Cycle Network Plan Maps, including greenways, so hope to see them included in the final strategy.

Trim deserves a much more ambitious, coordinated and sustainable transport plan 🚴🚴‍♂️ We made our submission to the NTA's Greater Dublin Area Transport Strategy Some highlights of our vision for Trim's cycling infrastructure🧵

@CWinchcombe Absolutely Conor Part of the problem is the lack of data. So much of our infrastructure is focused on getting people to and from work because that's what we measure. 2/3 of trips are non-commutes but we don't build the infrastructure for them

Identifying the key feeder routes of any towns hinterland is vital, every town will have satellite populations, be that Dublin, Athlone, Trim or Skibbereen. Getting people living on those key routes safely to town on foot or by bike is key to changing how we travel in Ireland.
Trim - Sustainable Energy Community@Trim_SEC

9,000 people live in Trim town but another 11,000 live within cycling distance That's why we propose all roads leading to Trim have segregated cycle paths (blue) from Dunderry, Robinstown, Kiltale, Summerhill, Rathmolyon, Ballivor, Boardsmill, Kildalkey & Athboy 1

@SligoCycling This was our first foray into transport issues but we hope to cover all energy - heat, electricity and transport. There is definitely a lot of opportunity for collaboration between cycling and energy groups. We would be interested in joining the @cyclistie's rural group! Thanks!

@Trim_SEC Well done! We only had a quick glance at your submission but it is mighty impressive & we hope it bears fruit! Was your SEC already involved with Transport? We hope to shortly get involved with the Sligo SEC. Re rural roads this might interest you. cyclist.ie/2020/11/a-visi…

Sadly, the plan for a cycle path along the Boyne from Navan to Trim and out to the Royal Canal Greenway didn't make it into the NTA's plan. We hope they change their mind Trim has a lot to offer tourists. Imagine tourists from Dublin, Galway or further staying in @TrimTourismN

Despite the pandemic 2020 & 2021 were busy years for us in @Trim_SEC. We expect 2022 to be no differ. Great work by the committee in their submission today to the NTA's Greater Dublin Area Transport Strategy identifying greater cycling initiatives for Trim. @NavanCycling #cycling

A great thread, and great submission, from our friends at @Trim_SEC. Trim, like Navan, has so much potential for cycling and sustainable transport. The full #BoyneGreenway route, connecting the two towns, will be key. We need to see it happen asap @meathcoco
