There is a passage in The Two Towers which is arguably among the most important across the books. Frodo and Sam are asleep outside the entrance to Shelob's lair when Smeagol sidles up to Frodo. Tolkien writes that anyone who saw him would have thought was just a very tired old hobbit. He is written in such affectionate terms here. It is clear that in this moment Smeagol was very close to embracing the Good. But Sam wakes up, assumes the worst about his intentions, and that's that. Smeagol was killed in that moment and Gollum was what remained. The movies could and should have included this scene. It would have added SO MUCH depth to the already deep on screen character of Smeagol/Gollum. We all wrestle with the good and evil in our own hearts. Not everyone wins that match. That is the lesson of Gollum in the books and movies alike.

You're pointing at something real. Endometriosis affects ~190 million women, takes 7-10 years on average to diagnose, and there's been almost nothing new therapeutically for years. That's not acceptable. The distinction I'd draw: clascoterone and rezpegaldesleukin were funded by private biotech capital betting on large addressable markets. Endometriosis needs more public research funding. Both can be true simultaneously.

The other (clascoterone) is a cream for the common baldness men get with age. It blocks the hormone responsible, but only on your scalp. No pills. No effect on sexual function. Tested in 1,465 people across two Phase 3 trials: more than 5x the hair growth of placebo. 87 million Americans deal with one of these two conditions. After nearly three decades with nothing new, both showed up in the same year.

@rugby_podcast The Reds have maybe two players with decent post-contact meters. Zero leg drive from most of them. Harry Wilson just gets airborne and bounced around. Tim Ryan is a paper man. They got absolutely manhandled by the Canes.

Anyone not overly sold on kiss? Like the continuity pick for the wallabies. But the reds have an insane squad with tones of depth and I can’t quite see the improvement. Maybe I’m being a bit recency bias and they have had a tough start to the season with injuries.

@Nitroid I’m 100% serious. I’ve replayed one game in the last 20 years. Movies aren’t a fair comparison. You can’t knock out a game in 2.5hrs. Books, maybe, depending on the book. Playing an entire game again when there are plenty of solid new games? Hell no.

@TurboJJones You can't be serious. That's like asking why anyone would watch old movies or read classic literature. There's a HUGE catalogue of games from those generations, many of which are far better than what's being made today.

Sadly, this will likely the be the last generation of PlayStation that I opt into. I've been on board since the PS1, but with rising costs, mandatory subscriptions, and a lack of meaningful incentives (seriously, still no backwards compatibility?), there's just no value left.
