Imagine you run a 24 hour hamburger joint. You do pretty well. You sell 1000 burgers a week for $10 each, netting $5 on each. But almost all your money is made during “peak” hours when demand is highest — lunch, dinner. You net $5000 a week.
Then a big change. A 24 hour factory opens across the street. The workers at the factory don’t have a set lunch hour, so they just run out for burgers whenever they feel hungry, roughly evenly distributed throughout the day and night.
Burger demand surges — a little bit during those peak hours, but also at all hours of the night, mid-afternoon, early morning, all times you previously weren’t selling many burgers and your staff was mostly sitting around.
With the surge in demand, you’re now selling 2000 burgers a week. You cut the price to $8 per burger (to encourage more factory customers), so you now net $6000 per week. Demand went way up, but you cut prices and are making more revenue and profit.
At this point you might think I’ve told you a story about hamburgers. I’ve actually told you a story about data centers and electricity prices.

@botzarelli @londonHenryGB Hmrc cracked down on pre-tax deductions, pension, electric car, and cycle to work are about all that’s left these days
English

@MarmotRespecter Wrong. Turbulence can make an aircraft drop over 100 feet in seconds launching you out of your seat, seatbelts aren’t just for in the case of a crash
English

@ericarrache I speak for the rest of the English we don’t claim this person as one of our own. That’s criminal
English

@funkomi @British_Airways If they tell you to go through insurance it means the bag likely wasn’t lost in BAs possession, bags are processed/ sorted by the airports and airport staff majority of the time, the BA baggage handlers that put your bag on the plane can only do their job if others do theirs
English

Paid more to travel on @British_Airways (I know 🥲) as the other airline is famous for losing luggage. We have been back in the country for 22 days and BA has confirmed our luggage is “lost” and we shouldn’t even ask them for compensation, we should ask our insurers. Wait there.

@ibowens3 @BrummieTricky Because they charge based on the cost to replace the inventory, if their next tanker cost +40% they wouldn’t have the cash to pay for it if they didn’t, because profit margins on fuel are tiny
English

@BrummieTricky What I don’t get is. They buy a tankers worth of fuel for a set price. So why do they keep rising it, that shouldn’t be allowed. Should only change the price when they buy more fuel for delivery weather it’s higher or lower.
English

@redrumlisa Very low profit margins on fuel, pump price is dependant on the anticipated price to replace the stock, because if their next tanker cost +30%, they wouldn’t have the cash to pay for it
English

I bet they will stop doing this soon. They’ve literally just given you a precise recipe. Any sensible person will look at this and decide to just make it themselves whenever they need it

WELL DONE @marksandspencer You have understood the brief with respect to ingredients perfectly AND it’s really tasty 😋 HURRAH 🥳

@WallStreetApes after years of borrowing someone’s money that he is yet to pay back, you are surprised he doesn’t just get to do this for free? A student loan isn’t charity, it’s an opportunity for the privilege of higher education, why should others have to pay for it with their taxes
English

@TylariousYT @DarkViperAU He’s not arguing they don’t deserve it, he’s arguing the pay system is wrong

You know what they say... when in Rome.... All you have to do is toss them a $5 chip to start and they will take care of you for the rest of the night... in casinos minimum is $2 per drink. When i go to casinos i always set aside $20 for tips, trust me, they deserve it.
Tip your waiters and bartenders folks!
English

I hate America's tipping culture. A waitress brought me a free diet coke at my poker table, but after I forgot to tip, she ignored my follow-up order and avoided me the rest of the night. I was just distracted by the game ffs.
“Free” drinks are never really free in America. In Australia, service workers are paid well, so tipping here can slip my mind. Why do billion-dollar casinos make staff rely on inconsistent charity? Insane.
English

@VincentJBruins He’s meant to go backwards because it was piastri’s corner, it’s quite simple
English

@ChaponaBike123 Move over and do you best to avoid holding people up it’s called being considerate and thoughtful to for others…
English

Don't you just love it when they try and justify their actions and try and stop for a chat. There was no need to overtake, and certainly not overtake just for the pleasure of having to slow down again.
