@MobyDickSpoiler 59% of voters agree with the ruling, with only 18% opposing that. Even a plurality of labour voters support the ruling. A green surge is not going to happen in Makerfield. 88% of reform inclined voters support the decision.

@technopopulist He over-performed by 10 points in that Mayoral Election. Andy Street got 37% of the vote in the Mayoral Contest, compared to the General Election where the Conservatives got 27% in the West Midlands.

You lost your mayorship, Andy. The voters made it brutally clear what they think of One Nation Toryism. It’s also rich how you toss around the word “pro-business” while belonging to a party that championed NIMBYism and industry‑killing Net Zero policies. And what do you mean by “pragmatic” when you presided over the Boriswave and refused to scrap the HRA and ECHR?
Andy Street@andy4wm

I am committed to the Conservative Party and want it to succeed. But my view is simple: the Party is strongest when it is pragmatic, pro-business and focused on growth, not distracted by populism and the fringes. That’s how we renew the Party.

@redditchrache When did you stop being Director of Strategy? Wikipedia (shows how reliable this is) states you are still in that position

I’ve no special knowledge of this scenario and I don’t work for Kemi now. But the reason I backed her for party leader in 2022 and ran her campaign in 2024 is because of the qualities she displays in this clip. It takes enormous courage to put yourself forward for leadership roles in politics and she has that with knobs on. But anyone who ever worked with her or knows her discovers that she takes her role as steward of our party seriously because she cares about it as a treasured institution. It is not about getting a position for herself. It is about building up a historic party again to serve the nation. That’s the difference between her and this sorry parade of selfish snakes and liars. Good riddance to the lot of them.
Kemi Badenoch@KemiBadenoch

I have sacked Robert Jenrick from the Shadow Cabinet, removed the whip and suspended his party membership with immediate effect. I was presented with clear, irrefutable evidence that he was plotting in secret to defect in a way designed to be as damaging as possible to his Shadow Cabinet colleagues and the wider Conservative Party. The British public are tired of political psychodrama and so am I. They saw too much of it in the last government, they’re seeing too much of it in THIS government. I will not repeat those mistakes.

@theguardianfeed Just for the record, Zahawi did NOT resign as Chancellor due to his unpaid tax bill, he was the caretaker Chancellor and was not reappointed to the position when Truss became PM. He was instead sacked by Sunak as Chair of the Conservative Party. Accuracy is important.

@Just_a_b1oke @an0n_Nic @peterrhague Singapore has a quasi-sovereign wealth fund, with zero natural resources. Their version of NI contributions, which admittedly is a lot higher than ours, goes into individual pots to pay for healthcare, housing, and pensions. It can be done, just needs long term thinking

What people have not figured out is that if you want a kitchen porter to be paid £45k you need people on average to be earning x4 that so they can consume the service. The problem now is that the UK is a low-pay economy and the state is pushing up the bottom end, but the top end will not consume it because they don’t have the disposable income. Vicious cycle.
ChefDeanBanks@banks_chef

New Kitchen Porter wage breakdown 12.71 per hour 45 hours per week =29.7k + 8k service charge (taxed) 37,740 +15% NI Contributions = 5661 +5% Pension = 1887 Paid by company £37,289 Total wage £45,289 People still question why a burger is over £20

@TanBerkAki @OnyxAurelius @nikicaga @1783329a Ross Perot was not far right. He supported gun control, supported gay rights, was pro-choice and wanted Medicare for all. He was also against the Gulf War. If you think that is far right, you’re insane.

@SteveDavies365 @unes33501870 It would be an incredibly difficult system to transition to. You’d have to run our current system (or a variation of it) simultaneously with the new compulsory savings scheme until enough of a cushion is built up.

@unes33501870 I like that system. It's not strictly libertarian because of the compulsive aspect but I think that's inevitable. I would prefer several provident institutions rather than one. Interesting argument of as to whether that saving & spending private or 'public but non governmental'.

@NYRangersss @geoffreyvs Quite simply that the Wisconsin Democratic Party has actually invested a lot in their ground game and get out the vote approach which you’d expect to lead to higher turnout (not just this year, but in off cycle elections as well)

Love the unfounded takes about vote fraud on the right even in THIS election because Rosen has taken the lead in Nevada — when Trump is all but certain to carry NV at the top of the ticket. Seems like if you're gonna do fraud, you'd wanna make sure you win the presidency.
