Most Reformed folks are reluctant to talk about the Holy Spirit, walking in the Spirit, prayer, fasting, demons, angels, impressions...They think they'll be accused of being a charismatic. So what! Just point them to the Puritans, Covenanters, Spurgeon, Reformers, etc.

There’s a double meaning to this book title when you look at who wrote it.

The great Scottish divine Thomas Halyburton on his death bed, 1712, was "greatly concerned for Scotland, lest a dry, formal, and merely rational religion should prevail." One of his last prayers was thus- "The operations of the Spirit of God are ridiculed in this day, but it we take away the operations and influences of the Spirit of God in religion, I know not what is left. O! that this generation would awake to seek after the quickening influences of the Spirit. O! for a day of the downpouring of the Spirit from on high!"

So encouraged by how the Lord uses things. Been meeting tonight with pastors in Sri Lanka and Italy about plans for the Sinhala translation of Apostolic Theology. Praying it will be a blessing to many.

A pastor's job is not to change people, hold their broken lives together, or activate their wills to act. His job is to prayerfully bring God's Word to bear upon their lives while trusting the Holy Spirit to make them (and him) not just hearers but doers of it.

🧵 of posts where people are (re-)considering faith after recent events. Let me know what I should add… Let’s start with @Glinner whose free speech cost him his freedom a fortnight ago, how does #ripcharliekirk impact him?
Graham Linehan@Glinner

Now I want to read CS Lewis and other Christian writers. (#ripcharliekirk) Chesterton too if one can wave the smell of his then-fashionable (and fashionable again!) antisemitism off the pages

Anyone able to tell me why עֶ֫רֶב (e.rev) is translated ‘late afternoon’ in 2 Sam11:2 in the ESV? Other translations opt for ‘evening’ and other occurrences of עֶ֫רֶב in the ESV are translated evening/twilight. @crossway

8 mentoring/discipling questions you can use when meeting with Christians 1-1 or in a small group: 1. Are you reading your Bible? What are you learning? Is there anything you don’t understand? (Get him on a Bible reading plan for accountability & consistency.) 2. How's your prayer life? Has God answered any of your prayers this week? Recently? 3. Where is God showing you sin in your life? Where do you need to grow? What are some temptations you’re facing? What part of your old life do you feel is hardest to leave behind? What do you want to see changed? Let's pray for this right now. 4. Where has your walk with Christ been evident this week? For example, where have you seen victory over sin? Faith in the midst of trials? 5. Have you shared the gospel with anyone this week? Who are some people in your life you’d like to see saved? What are some ways to see this happen? 6. What's the most challenging thing in your life this week? Recently? Let's pray about it right now. 7. How are your relationships with others going? At work, in the home, on social media, in the community? 8. Where do you see yourself in 6 months? 12 months? 5 years? What are your spiritual, family, & material goals? How can you get there?

Has anyone ever written a biblical theology of donkeys? If not, I think they should. Clear gap in the evangelical book market. 🫏

J.M. Boice on our adoption: Having justified us, God could still have left us on a much inferior level of status and privilege. Instead, he took us into his own family giving us the status and privilege of daughters and sons. Praise God.
