.@KELINKenya is honored to participate in the 87th session of the @ACHPR in Banjul, Gambia- celebrating the 45th Anniversary of the Adoption of the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights under the African Union theme: “Year of Water Sustainability: Assuring Sustainable Water Availability & Safe Sanitation Systems to Achieve the Goals of Agenda 2063.” Addressing the Commission this morning, @MilimuElsie drew attention to the lived realities of women and girls across our continent attempting to access clean water, highlighting the indivisibility of their right to water security and reproductive health rights. She called upon African Union Member States to: ✅Reaffirm that access to safe water, sanitation, and hygiene is an essential enabler of the right to health and reproductive rights, ✅Prioritize integrated investments in WASH and SRHR systems, ✅Strengthen accountability mechanisms during state reporting, and encourage increased domestic financing for both health and water systems, in line with the Abuja Declaration and States’ obligations under regional human rights instruments. What’s really in your food? 🍽️ @KELINKenya joins the Food Policy Coalition partners in launching the What's In Your Food campaign. The coalition is calling for clear front-of-pack warning labels on ultra-processed foods to help Kenyans make informed choices and reduce the growing burden of NCDs responsible for 39% of deaths in Kenya. It’s time to question what we eat and demand better. #FoodPolicy #MassMediaCampaignLaunch @IncubatorGHAI @VitalStrat @IILAinfo @KenyaNCCK @NCDAllianceKe @aphrc @MalecheAllan

Over the past days, I have been part of the #UPR4thCycle consultation with fellow CSOs, convened by @cehurduganda and @EACHRights amplifying the need for affordable and inclusive health services for everyone, including persons with disabilities. The #UPR process is an inclusive human rights mechanism that brings together national frameworks like the Persons with Disabilities Act 2020 and global standards such as the #UNCRPD ensuring no one is left behind and driving action towards equitable and inclusive health for all. These are among the key laws and policies that guide disability inclusion in health. #HealthForAll #TwezuuleFoundation

Reflections from partners on the 𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝗱𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗿𝗲𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗨𝗴𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗮’𝘀 𝟰𝘁𝗵 𝗖𝘆𝗰𝗹𝗲 𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗮𝗹 𝗣𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗼𝗱𝗶𝗰 𝗥𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄 (𝗨𝗣𝗥) ❝I have had the privilege of attending a retreat organized by CEHURD and @EACHRights on the Universal Periodic Review (#UPR) process. This experience has been deeply enriching and transformative. As a first-time participant in such a forum, I found the discussions both eye-opening and empowering. Engaging with fellow advocates and lawyers created a vibrant space for learning and exchange. What stood out most was the emphasis on the quality of recommendations, the need for clarity, specificity, and evidence-based advocacy, while also drawing from previous recommendations of the previous reviews to strengthen our positions. The retreat highlighted the need for reporting about the ractifiedinternational laws since the reporting obligations are mandatory, it became clear that civil society organizations (CSOs) must work hand in hand with government institutions to monitor progress, share insights, and propose constructive ways forward. This collaboration is essential to ensure that commitments translate into tangible improvements in the protection and promotion of equal rights for all human beings. Overall, the retreat was not only beneficial but also inspiring. It reaffirmed the critical role of collective action in advancing human rights and reminded me that meaningful advocacy requires both knowledge and partnership.❞ ~ @joycenakato256 Team leader Uganda youth and Adolescents health forum (@uyahf1 ) #UPR4thCycleUG

❝The past three days of the 𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝗱𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗿𝗲𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗨𝗴𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗮’𝘀 𝟰𝘁𝗵 𝗖𝘆𝗰𝗹𝗲 𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗮𝗹 𝗣𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗼𝗱𝗶𝗰 𝗥𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄 (𝗨𝗣𝗥) have been highly informative, insightful, and grounded in evidence. The discussions have gone beyond simply identifying the challenges faced by our communities. They have critically examined where these issues are most prevalent, their root causes, and the resulting effects. This deeper level of analysis strengthens advocacy and ensures that the realities on the ground are clearly understood. However, it is essential that all identified challenges are supported by accurate data and credible sources, including relevant research and verifiable links. Evidence-based reporting not only enhances credibility but also makes recommendations more compelling and actionable. A key aspect of the process is linking these issues to human rights frameworks at both national and international levels. For example, the Persons with Disabilities Act, 2020 emphasizes the right to access inclusive and specialized health services. Similarly, Article 25 of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD) calls for the provision of the same range, quality, and standard of free or affordable healthcare to persons with disabilities as is available to others, including in sexual and reproductive health and broader public health programmes. What makes the UPR process even more engaging is its continuity. It requires stakeholders to reflect on recommendations made during the previous review cycle, assess the progress achieved, identify existing gaps, and propose practical actions for improvement. The UPR is not just a reporting mechanism it is a powerful tool for accountability, learning, and driving meaningful change.❞ ~ @BugembeNelson | Lead @TwezuuleF #UPR4thCycle

❝As EOC, we extend appreciation to CEHURD and all stakeholders who participated in this important UPR capacity building workshop. The discussions and knowledge have strengthened our collective understanding of human rights monitoring, reporting and advocacy within the UPR framework. EOC re-affirms commitment to promoting equality, non-discrimination and inclusive development in Uganda. We recognize that effective engagement in the UPR process requires continued collaboration, evidence-based reporting and sustained capacity development among state and non-state actors. Fast forward, we encourage all participants to translate the insights gained into concrete actions that advance accountability and improve the realization of human rights for all, especially the marginalized and vulnerable groups. Together, we can ensure that Uganda’s commitments under the UPR lead to meaningful and measurable progress as the process continues.❞ Hon. ❝It has been my first ever #UPR report writing engagement and I am walking away with a wealth of knowledge and insights from the history of human rights to the intricacies of the UPR process. I have gained a deeper understanding of the mechanisms that shape our work as CSOs. The experts’ valuable insights have shed light on the complexities of SRHR and its intersectionality with other human rights components. I’ve learned how to craft a comprehensive report that not only highlights the challenges but also provides actionable recommendations for duty bearers. I’M SIMPLY EXCITED. The UPR seems complex but it has been simplified with the right expertise in this retreat.❞ ~ Adokey Esther @eadokey , Program Officer - Center for Economic Social Cultural Rights in Africa (@CescraA) 𝑹𝙚𝒇𝙡𝒆𝙘𝒕𝙞𝒐𝙣𝒔 𝒇𝙧𝒐𝙢 𝙥𝒂𝙧𝒕𝙣𝒆𝙧𝒔 𝒐𝙣 𝙩𝒉𝙚 𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝗱𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗿𝗲𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗨𝗴𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗮’𝘀 𝟰𝘁𝗵 𝗖𝘆𝗰𝗹𝗲 𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗮𝗹 𝗣𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗼𝗱𝗶𝗰 𝗥𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄 (𝗨𝗣𝗥) #UPR4thCycle

I got the experience of understanding how we can contribute to national and even global change by coming together to collectively highlight the trenchant issues at hand but also understand progress that has been made I appreciate that the convening was diverse in expertise which offered an opportunity for wide learning and information exchange Having to look at SRHR multi-sectorally was a great opportunity and well thought of move.
