Memorial Day is a sacred day of remembrance, reverence, and gratitude for the brave patriots who have laid down their lives in service to our great Nation. Across Europe—at Meuse-Argonne, Aisne-Marne, Normandy, the Ardennes, the Netherlands, and Luxembourg—thousands of American heroes rest in foreign soil. They gave everything to defend liberty and defeat tyranny. Their sacrifice secured the freedom Europe enjoys today. We remember. We honor. We will never forget.

Spoke with UN Secretary-General @antonioguterres about advancing @POTUS’ vision for a more effective, efficient, and accountable @UN focused on peace. I emphasized Luke Lindberg is the right leader for @WFP—his appointment is essential to ensuring @UN operates with the transparency and accountability required to feed the world. We also discussed U.S. efforts at the UN to stop Iran’s unlawful actions in the Strait of Hormuz, and how the U.S. rapidly mobilized resources to support the response to the #Ebola outbreak in the DRC and Uganda.

4/ Now layer on international rules. Under the EU’s Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive and Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive, large companies must collect, verify, and report massive ESG data across their entire supply chain—reaching all the way down to individual family dairy farms. Advancing the EU’s Green Deal, they force aggressive environmental goals under the banner of “sustainability.”

Congratulations to the European Commission, Parliament, and Council on reaching an agreement to reduce tariffs on U.S. industrial exports as agreed by President Trump and President von der Leyen last year at Turnberry. We are encouraged by the progress this step represents (while we will review the details closely).

The EU's Deforestation Regulation (#EUDR) is creating unnecessary barriers for U.S. forest products → afandpa.org/priorities/how… U.S. producers estimate that a single shipment of forest products may include thousands of individual plots of land, and a single container can require tens of thousands of geolocation data points—despite America's well-established forest governance and negligible deforestation risk. As the American @ForestandPaper Association notes, these requirements "divert resources away from forest management, innovation, and trade, while creating non-tariff trade barriers that conflict with broader transatlantic trade commitments." The Commission’s simplification review of EUDR did not address core concerns of this regulation: removal of onerous and costly compliance requirements for countries that do not contribute to global deforestation like the United States.

We have reached a turning point in the negotiations on the Turnberry commitments. We are faced with a crucial moment to get the deal done. Europe cannot afford another round of delays, political manoeuvring or institutional deadlock while our industries continue to face uncertainty. The @EPPGroup calls on all negotiators to step beyond red lines that risk undermining the agreement itself and deliver a credible, workable outcome. Protecting European industrial interests, particularly in strategic sectors such as steel and aluminium, remains essential. But safeguard mechanisms must be operational, proportionate and realistically enforceable — not politically symbolic measures that create further instability. Today, U.S. forests are stable, healthy and growing: • 1/3 of the U.S. is covered by forests. • More than 1 billion trees are planted each year. • The net forest area in the U.S. has increased steadily in the past 30 years. The Trump administration balances conservation with responsible use by promoting sustainable domestic timber production, supporting the wood industry as critical national security infrastructure, and ensuring forests remain healthy through active management rather than neglect.

.@POTUS President Trump has repeatedly demonstrated that he prefers a deal to a dispute. The EU has enjoyed months of lower U.S. tariffs while delivering zero tariff reductions in return. That's not reciprocity. That's not how allies treat each other. We have a deal. The EU still has time to choose cooperation over confrontation. Our sincere hope is that it will. .@POTUS is officially wheels down in Beijing ahead of his historic Summit. It's the first state visit of a sitting U.S. president to China since President Trump's last visit in 2017.

Last year we planted 22 million+ trees with partners like @NationalForests, @AmericanForests, @arborday, and @onetreeplanted, contributing nearly $8 million toward seedlings and reforesting 285,000+ acres.

President Trump asks our allies in Europe to join us to invest in the foundations of our mutual long-term strength. That requires implementation of the tariff cuts under the U.S.-EU Framework on Trade. The United States appreciates its close partnership with Hungary, and I’m grateful to @odor_balint for a good discussion of transatlantic priorities over delicious Hungarian food.

The United States wants to work with our allies in Europe and build on our strong transatlantic relationship. President Trump has shown that deregulation and pro-business policies unleash economic growth, and Europe can benefit from the same approach. Great to talk with a very impressive MEP, @Assita_Kanko of the European Parliament's @ecrgroup and discuss the need for the EU to turn away from a regulatory environment that stifles innovation and discourages investment.

The #EUDR seeks to prohibit imports of seven products—including cattle, cocoa, rubber, and wood— and many more byproducts unless exporters meet various burdensome compliance requirements like due diligence statements and geolocation data for all plots of land where the product was produced. This plan could impact $8.6 billion worth of annual U.S. agricultural and industrial exports. The U.S. maintains an open market to substantial European exports, while the EU is increasingly closed off to U.S. exporters due to unfair non-tariff barriers like EUDR. This imbalance puts our economy and security at risk and is the reason non-tariff barriers, including the EUDR, were singled out in negotiations for the U.S.-EU Framework Agreement on Trade.

Indigenous leaders recently traveled to Brussels to press a critical case: the #EUDR risks harming the very forest stewards it should support. Tribal Nations in the US manage forests under some of the world's strictest regulations—yet face new burdens that could force them to disclose sacred sites and culturally sensitive locations. One EU official admitted, "I never even thought about US Tribes." It's time to fix this blind spot and recognize that sovereign, culturally grounded forest management works.
