Now that we are on a clear path to pass funding for @ICEgov and @CBP through reconciliation, it is time to pass the Senate’s DHS funding bill and ensure that FISA Section 702 doesn’t expire. Congress must remain in session until both of these pass so that we avoid furloughing 150,000 DHS employees, risking our national security ahead of the World Cup, during times of heightened tensions abroad, and that our DHS can work without worrying when their next paycheck is coming.

Last night’s White House Correspondents’ Dinner was meant to showcase unity around the First Amendment. America is better than the political violence we’re now seeing far too often these days. Joined @NewsNation today to share my perspective from inside the room and more 👇

Just left the White House Correspondents' Dinner after shots were fired in the building. Everyone near me hid under tables and are now safe, including President Trump. While details are still emerging, one thing is clear: Political violence is rising in our country. We need to do more than simply tone down polarizing rhetoric– we need to return to engaging in sensible policy debates rather than engaging in constant hyperbole. Thankful for the Secret Service and other law enforcement agencies for stepping up tonight and quickly detaining the shooter.
