Considered a lethal threat to UK dominance via the seas. Indeed a key reason why Britain wanted to make war on Germany (& hence started WW1). China is the new Germany, peacefully focusing on innovation & economic prosperity, building up a trade surplus & hence being considered a deadly threat to the powers that want to subjugate & dominate, the powers that want to destroy everything excellent & good.

Listening to the second half of this interview where @YashengHuang says he can't think of another way for the PRC to reform but through economic development and engagement with the rest of the world, but I thought we have already seen that it was false to assume that the opening up of the PRC's economy would lead to political reforms and potential liberalization or democratization. When you have an autocracy, that prosperity translates to more power for the elites, elites that never changed their minds ideologically or politically. 1) It was not China but the US that initiated the extraterritorial imposition of domestic law. When it did so, did Washington worry about jeopardising relations with its largest and most reliable supplier? 2) As you've said, China, faced with unilateral sanctions, may choose to lie low or push forward vigorously, depending on circumstances. Whether America’s strength relative to China has risen or fallen in recent years is hardly in doubt. Clinging to outdated strategies is for fools and cowards. 3) I was unaware that you remain so deeply concerned with China's interests—or in identifying who is really anti-China. Many thanks for your concern over China’s valiant struggle against the unjust imposition.
