RWENZORI MARATHON 2026 ADDIS ABABA ETHOPIA ACTIVATION Personality : MICHAEL WAMAI Work place: @UgaEmbassyAddis We are yet to get the real numbers of people our activation reached recently in ADDIS ABABA ETHIOPIA but it trended in Ethopia and UGANDA too. Just like we did with Kilimanjaro with Uganda high commission and Arusha consulate, South Africa with @AmoruPaul and team. Canada with Amb @kajik5566 and team, Mombasa with our consulate, Copenhagen with team there, Nairobi etc Anyways, today I want to highlight MICHAEL WAMAI, I had never worked with him on any project before so I didn’t know much about his abilities though we knew each other. He calls up and says bwana Amos, we need to activate in Addis Ababa since Ethopia has many runners but we don’t know where to start from. I tell him to give me a day to think about a strategy which he did, he isn’t the type that says many things and he is a matter of fact person. I tell him to succeed, we need to work Ethopias biggest running brand GREAT ETHOPIAN RUN. These guys are so professional in their work, with one of the top 3 10kms runs in the world. I also give him a strategy on how we can reach bigger numbers and he organizes the meeting a few days later GREAT ETHOPIAN RUN group. He was so efficient. I brought on board one of colleagues @mbjorgum since am up and down with other things. I tell him, I will come in person for more engagement. It was so good that even the ADDIS ABABA TOURISM BOARD wants to partner with RWENZORI MARATHON this year, it was massive both online and offline in ethiopia. Running Group representatives were approaching up one by one and I think next year if we do well, we might get over 1k Ethopians flying for RWENZORI MARATHON. We also can’t forget to thank the whole team at Ugandan embassy in Addis Ababa, they turned up in big numbers to help with engaging runners.

The Third African Union Reflection Forum on Unconstitutional Changes of Government (UCGs) in Africa, held from 3-4 July 2026, closed on a high note, with Member States and participants recommitting to promoting good governance, peace, security, and stability in Africa and reiterating the AU’s zero tolerance for UCGs. Hon. James Gyakye Quayson, Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ghana, Commissioner @Bankole_Adeoye, and Dr Mathias Naab, Director, UNDP Regional Service Centre for Africa, closed the session, reiterating the call to strengthen democratic governance, constitutional order, and conflict prevention in Africa, with a focus on addressing the drivers of unconstitutional changes of government. They also emphasised the importance of youth participation in governance, peacebuilding, and democratic transformation. Among others, the Forum committed to strengthening coordination between the African Union and Regional Economic Communities, enhancing governance monitoring, and promoting constitutional governance and electoral integrity. They also called for upholding constitutional principles, respecting term limits, conducting credible elections, and strengthening democratic institutions. They underlined the need to move beyond dialogue towards implementation, strengthening preventive governance, and working towards realising Agenda 2063; called for young people to be recognised as strategic partners in governance, peacebuilding, and democratic transformation; and proposed the establishment of an African Union Youth Peace Camp to strengthen youth engagement with the AU. Director @PatienceChirad3 moderated the session.

The @greatethrun and Uganda's @RwenzoriMarathn are strengthening regional cooperation through sport by encouraging greater participation between two of East Africa's premier road races. The activation highlighted the shared commitment of Ethiopia and Uganda to promoting tourism, friendship, and people-to-people connections across East Africa. Panel 1 of the Third AU Reflection on Unconstitutional Changes of Government: An Overview of the State of Democratic Governance in Africa. Meeting Objective: To discuss the state of democratic governance in Africa and identify ways to strengthen it. The Forum discussed the state of democratic governance in Africa, focusing on constitutional governance, democratic resilience, and the prevention of unconstitutional changes of government. While acknowledging progress in democratic governance, participants highlighted ongoing challenges, including governance deficits, institutional weaknesses, and the resurgence of unconstitutional changes of government. •Democratic Governance: Extends beyond elections and should be measured by how well governance institutions respond to citizens’ needs and aspirations. •Abuse of Power: A major driver of democratic dissatisfaction, leading to increased tolerance for military intervention in some cases. •Youth Participation: Young people should be partners in governance, policymaking, and democratic development, not just beneficiaries. •Women’s Participation in Governance: The panel highlighted the need for meaningful participation of women in political leadership and decision-making, going beyond symbolic representation. •Governance Challenges: Structural challenges like youth unemployment, climate change, and inadequate infrastructure were identified as affecting democratic stability. •Youth Empowerment: The importance of civic education, leadership development, and mentorship in preparing young people for responsible leadership was emphasised. •Political Financing and Inclusion: Reviewing political financing arrangements to make political participation more inclusive for young people and women. •Rural-Urban Migration Solutions: Addressing rural-urban migration by creating employment opportunities and fostering knowledge-based economies. •Democratic Governance and Preventive Engagement: Grounding democratic governance discussions in African Union frameworks while promoting transparency, accountability, and preventive engagement to support Member States. Panel Moderation: Ms. Nakabira Nashiba, Former African Youth Ambassador for Peace (East Africa), moderated the panel. •Panel Speakers: The panel included Mr. Bakary Sonko, Mr. Blaise Kizito Ndukwe, and Professor Henry Prempeh.
