Overall tho, I had a good time with this little detour. I know this is a bit of a controversial book (honestly what X-Men book from this era wasn't at this point 😭), but I personally found a lot to love about it, and would recommend checking it out for yourself if you can!

His ugly traced art betrayed the emotions of so many scenes to the point where I wouldn't blame someone for not being able to take this book as seriously because of it. I hate hate HATE how they chose him to draw this mini and envy the alt timeline where he didn't draw it

Unfortunately the biggest problem I had was that, for as good as the writing was to me, it was all hampered by having the literal worst possible choice for an artist in Greg Land

But it also had plenty of pain suffering and humiliation aimed at Quentin Quire so that more than makes up for that 🤭🙂↕️

Unfortunately none of the other characters that appeared here really stood out nearly as much as those three did, like as cool as it was to see Storm and Kurt again, it almost felt like they were there just so they could say they used them which was kinda disappointing

Honestly what I liked the most about it was how it served as a commentary for learning to let go of the past and allowing yourself the grace to move forward with your life, even if it's extremely hard to do so. It's a message that I feel is greatly needed beyond the characters

It also is the first place where Scott and Emma's relationship really feels like it started to solidify in a way that meshes with what I've heard it becomes later in the Utopia era, which is greatly appreciated

It not only served as a great conclusion to her and Scott's relationship around this time, but also to Jean as a character,as this was her last appearance for over a decade (which is still crazy to me)

As someone who's already read the Phoenix/Dark Phoenix saga, this wasn't my first rodeo with Jean and the Phoenix, and I'm thankful for it because this mini absolutely hits the hardest after spending time with her and seeing her character development over the years

@newmetrohaven His storytelling engine was “Kid grows up to be the next Goku and have his own adventures.” The problem is either Toriyama or the audience didn’t like the idea and dropped it pretty much immediately.

Gohan's biggest thing over Jon is that Gohan has a story engine. Simple as that. There's a reason Gohan existed both as part of goku's story and as part of his own and it's not built on constant revisions

@newmetrohaven making Jon into a Gohan-type character isn’t impossible, but anytime someone brings up the comparisons between the 2 i feel like they don’t understand why Gohan is cool & compelling
