Even at 101 years old, President Russell M. Nelson led The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints with vigor through a period of remarkable change and expansion, announcing more than 200 new temples worldwide. His call for all people to be peacemakers, and his reminder that “Anger never persuades, hostility never heals, and contention never leads to lasting solutions,” will remain a guiding light in our public discourse for years to come.

When we launched Unleash Utah this summer, we never imagined that our first two public statements would be written in response to tragedy. Our prayers and deepest sympathies are with the victims, their families, and with members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints everywhere.

We once forgot how to build in this country — but that is changing. Idaho and Utah are proving that we can lead again with safe, reliable nuclear energy. Together, we will strengthen energy security, protect our environment, and bolster national security. Congratulations to Oklo on breaking ground on a reactor that will deliver clean, affordable power, build a domestic supply chain for critical radioisotopes, and advance fuel recycling to turn nuclear waste into new energy. I’m proud to stand with our neighbors in Idaho as we build the future together. ⚡️

We at Unleash Utah were horrified and heartbroken to learn of the tragic events that occurred at Utah Valley University on September 10th. Violence against those who bring their voice and perspective to our communities is an assault not only on an individual, but on the principles of open dialogue and free thought. We are in disbelief that such a thing could happen in Utah. We extend our prayers and deepest condolences to Charlie Kirk’s wife, Erika, their two young children, and their loved ones during this unimaginably painful time. Our hearts also go out to the many young people who looked up to and loved Charlie. Many members of our coalition are young conservatives whose lives and careers were shaped by Charlie’s life’s work. We are grateful to law enforcement and first responders for their swift action and dedication to keeping Utahns safe. We applaud the efforts of state and federal officials who worked tirelessly to apprehend the suspect. We recognize that some of you were at the event or were close to people who were; our prayers are with you. Unleash Utah will honor Charlie Kirk’s legacy by continuing to support the freedom of thought and expression that makes Utah and America exceptional.
