@evbnb_ie @CorkGreens @EamonRyan Eg VW Passat 2014 max 140g/km, avg km pa 15k = 2,100kg CO2 pa. Donate to plant 200 trees pm = 2,400 pa. Tree absorb approx 10kg CO2 pa over 1st 20 yrs so trees you plant in 1 yr absorb 24,000 kg over 20 yrs. That’s 10x the CO2 from the driving. Where are my numbers wrong?

@IrelandMeda @kenoflynnTD Grok: “No official data. Est. 10–25% of "able to work" granted asylum holders in Ireland long-term on benefits. Rough total in category: 600–5,000 people (very uncertain).”

More than 33,000 people are in State accommodation. The average cost is about €71 per night per person, over €2,100 a month before other supports. Now the Government is softening its stance on family reunification. The system is too slow, too costly, and too weakly enforced. Process claims in weeks. Remove those refused. Support those entitled to stay. This is about fairness and control. #Ireland #Immigration #CostOfLiving #Accountability

@IrelandMeda @kenoflynnTD Unfortunately, yes. My point is that most asylum seekers end up employed. Assuming we have a fair asylum process (big assumption!) only worthy people would earn it. Single mum fleeing war, maybe we help, but all those granted asylum who can work, should, and most do.

@grok @Code3Bitcoin I have to correct you here. Strategy will not have 1.5M BTC, but it will have around 6 Million BTC. See $STRC eating up tons of BTC. Try again @grok

Retiring in 7 years. Mid-30s. How? 100% MSTR. That’s it. You only need 300 shares held until 2033. Then two paths open: Live a life of leisure forever or go change the world. Wealth. Power. Focus. That’s all you need.

@IrelandMeda @kenoflynnTD Got you. Now, most asylum seekers end up working too. It’s a fair concern about having to pay for a minority of asylum seekers forever, and we have plenty of Irish layabouts also. Perhaps a review of asylum every few years, or limited benefits for non workers.

@UseYour2Neurons @kenoflynnTD The ones that we will be paying for always. Vetted workers and the educated are welcome. Colour of skin doesn’t matter.

@IrelandMeda @kenoflynnTD I asked you a simple question out of curiosity. Just complaining about “mass migration” is too simplistic. Define exactly what category of immigrant you want to reduce, and how.

@FatEmperor @Doxic100 We can produce the electricity for EVs right here in Ireland. Our solar & wind generation is steadily growing. For petrol & diesel cars we have to import fuel.

@IrelandMeda @kenoflynnTD EU citizens can come here freely. Non EU have to request a work or student visa… these categories of people add to the economy. The asylum process needs an overhaul. Which group are you referring to?

@DenisDebung @Independent_ie Had RPZs not been introduced and tightened, it’s likely there’d have been fewer evictions. But the average renter and voter doesn’t understand the impact so they favour RPZs.

@Independent_ie Almost 1 in 6 tenants in the private sector received a no fault eviction notice in 2024/25 100k people. Hardworking, self sufficent, rent paying families, thrown onto the street in the middle of a housing crisis…

@Independent_ie Abolish RPZs. Grok: “Rent controls like RPZs (Ireland, NY, Scotland) often reduce rental supply via landlord exits & less investment, moderating rents for sitting tenants but raising market rents, lowering vacancies & indirectly boosting some evictions.”

@Independent_ie @Alexandernewry You moaners 😂. Just because €17M is high compared to your salary, it’s a tiny figure for the state. It’s 0.033% of welfare spending, and half of the overspend was recovered. You waste a lot more of your salary than 0.033% 😂

@Independent_ie @Alexandernewry Context before you freak out 😂… Grok: “The €17m+ overpayments to non-residents (absent from State) over 2 years (~€8.8m/yr) = just **0.033%** of Ireland's ~€27bn annual core welfare spend. (Tiny fraction of total spending.)”

@evers_deirdre @IrelandMeda @kenoflynnTD Wrong Deirdre. The proposal is to make it harder to bring family than it is now, by introducing a 2 year wait that doesn’t currently exist. Ken misrepresented it. The “softening” is not compared to current law, but compared to an even tougher proposal of 3 yrs.

@kenoflynnTD I am totally against family reunification. It is not Irelands responsibility to look after peoples family members. I wouldn’t expect Australia to take me in. Why would they?

@kenoflynnTD The Irish government is in a race to get a large enough immigrant voter block in place before an anti immigration and euro-sceptic can get their act together. Based on a 2005 analysis, there are just 4-5 more Dáil terms before the Irish are a minority.

@IrishTimesOpEd @IrishTimes New BTR is the most expensive rental option & is mainly in Dublin. The rest of the country will have fewer rental properties, and everywhere will have more expensive rentals. It takes a special type of blindness to achieve a lose-lose. Abolish RPZs & let the market balance.
