History's always skewed, written by the victors, even IRL. Blizzard writers love that theme. It's meant to teach us to scrutinize even our own history.

With this clarification, I think the intent of the haranir reveal is to introduce a sense of mystery back into the lore. What was previously fully explained is now meant to be uncertain with multiple contradicting explanations and no one in or out of universe knows the truth. (1)

@TheRedShirtGuy Imo, there's nothing wrong with the First ones lore and does not need "retconning". I'm more in the boat that the First Ones story was not meant to be relevant yet, and was introduced early to seed for what would happen in the far future i.e; post TLT.

That you got it wrong is on you, not the writers. Metzen literally wrote Chronicles' preface, which flags the book's own info as questionable.

@dan1_art @TheRedShirtGuy You may hate it but its what people subconsciously desire. They want to have a mysterious wonder about their favorite and nostalgic character/race that keeps them yearning for more. If the lore just answered all your questions then you'd get bored and quit the game.
