@CarlaCVanhoy We didn’t have a water fountain in school. You had to find an outside tap. But if the gardener had the hose pipe connected and in use - forget it. I think we managed with less water as our diets contained less salt and processed foods.

@BorisJohnson If you and your cronies were’nt so self-serving, people wouldn’t have felt that their only option was to vote for this wet blanket and his merry men. And while I’m here, why didn’t you do something about the Loan Charge? One of your many broken promises!!!

@LCAG_2019 @RedHawkWinter @KemiBadenoch @IainDale @loanchargeAPPG @DesmondSwayne @MPIainDS @NeilDotObrien Sorry but I remember Boris Johnson promising to do something about the Loan Charge but did sweet f@ck all once he was in office. All politicians lie to get votes and then conveniently change their tunes.

I wrote this on the LC review about a month ago. Others will no doubt have their views. In meantime I would welcome further resolution on key areas the Government decided to omit from the original scope. Horizontal equity remains a key concern.

Celebrating my birthday 📷 while logging on for duty at @yorkshirepost The years are flying by. Growing older is a privilege denied to so many. Health is wealth. We are nothing without the networks (professional and personal) that sustain us. Have a great day everyone 📷

It’s a difficult question, and I’ll try and answer it plainly rather than like a politician (which i'm not!).
My personal view is that the Loan Charge has been a shambles from start to finish. Poorly implemented, often targeting the wrong people, and taking far too long for government to recognise the harm it caused.
From a professional perspective, it’s also clear Ray was in an almost impossible position. I don’t think any review was ever going to satisfy everyone. It was always likely to land somewhere in the middle - leaving many unhappy, but hopefully producing something people could at least live with.
What worries me more is what’s happened since. HMRC’s slow adoption and the lack of clear guidance on what they are actually implementing and when risks repeating the same mistakes. Only today I had correspondence from Counter Avoidance saying further information would follow “over the next few months once guidance is implemented”.
Until that happens, a lot of uncertainty and anxiety unfortunately remains.

Freedom of Information response exposing that HMRC have spent £186m in pursuing victims of the Loan Charge scandal in order to extract £44m. That is a net loss to the public purse of approximately £142 million to date.

@litrgnews Whilst welcome calls to extend #LoanChargeScandal settlement offer to those unfairly excluded, did you not notice HMRC's sleight of hand @litrgnews?
HMRC/#FinanceBill intending to ADD estimated promoter fees (20%) to loans before deduct max 10% pa contrary to #McCannReview.
