The waterfall is a separate object. Using the same shader and lighting settings as the stream makes it blend in surprisingly seamlessly.

@bambi_vr The avatar creator could atlas or UV map more stuff together. And the world creator could use light volumes. The solution's not really on VRChat's side.

@bambi_vr Yeah, a lot of world and avatar creator decisions, VRChat can't do much about. An avatar with 30 visible materials is minimum 30 draw calls. If the world has three realtime lights and a caustics projector shining on them, it'll be at least 150.

@poiyomi @normalizedcrow w-wait how is it following the direction of the leg/tail? It's gotta be storing hierarchy info or something per vertex. That's so sick

@Zenidora Answering your own question is smart! Also I guess my chatting is highly content dependent. Like if they're doing Just Chatting or a "hangout mode" segment, I'm chatting because I wanna have more of an actual conversation. But if they're gaming I'm just tossing in jokes

@Vavassor That's reasonable. I'd like to think that I'm very chatty while streaming, to the point where I sometimes pause what I'm doing on the stream. I do also ask my chat questions, but instead of waiting for a response, I'll answer my own question in the meantime which I find helps!

@FelineEntity I think UVs and weight painting are to people "that thing I have to do before the Real art." (texture painting or animating) So developing an attitude that they shouldn't have to do it or improve at it, makes them not seek out resources or practice.

Every time I have to read about someone complaining about how "hard weight painting in Blender" is I wanna implode. It's not hard. It's so easy you can weight paint a whole character without auto weights or weight paint mode. But it's my fault, hypocrite me isn't teaching it.

@VrronicaJae This attitude also puts me off making worlds. If the community scoffs at paying for even optional things how would I ever cover the cost of making the world

@RolltheredDev People that deny that online spaces or games are real life usually just want these to be places where they can get away with not respecting people. It's fake, a joke, or an escape to defend it as a space where they can do *whatever*

"bro its just a game touch grass" I think that viewpoint is a problem. Its toxic, dismissive, and doesn't invite any form of discussion. It feels like projection and provides no value other than to put someone else's feelings down. Not a good way to treat human beings.
Rollthered@RolltheredDev

My feelings were hurt really bad, repeatedly tonight in VRChat and I wanted to talk about it. There is a kind of behavior that I do not like, and its becoming more and more often that I need to vent. I dont want to be alone in my thoughts anymore. I need people to do better.

@VonVRC Any kind of in-game message would help. I bet folks don't wanna join a discord or message on X. Because it's effort and they don't wanna switch out of game (or can't use overlays!)

@NVIDIAGeForce Your job is to display the art that games companies make. Not draw over it with your own art style. Your metric of success should be how close a technique reproduces the intended imagery. Not produce some other art style you think looks better.

WIP updates to Filamented! New shading modes! Glittery specular, anisotropic specular, subsurface and cloth, as well as clear coat, sheen, iridescence and wetness controls! You'll be able to control all this from the selector and a new "omni" shader. #vrchat

@Kurie_vfx Although I'm not sure why the edges of the screen are different. Maybe they measure distance to the camera plane instead of to camera center?

@Kurie_vfx When transparent objects overlap, the same screen pixel is drawn to many times. This "overdraw" can become a performance issue if there's many big particles covering most of the screen. So some games hide or shrink particles when you get close.

If you pan the camera from top to bottom at the same speed as the falling water, you can see what kind of texture is being used 😃
