@ScottJenningsKY Is this the same as unconditional surrender? I don’t think it is.

@EWErickson I didn’t know you were appointed to decide who is a real Christian or not. Are we voting for a religious leader or a Senator? You’re just making excuses for your tribalism.

Texas voters, who grew up with J. R. Ewing on television, will probably elect Paxton. They already re-elected him statewide as Texas Attorney General. When contrasted with an actual heretic “seminarian,” many Christians will hold their nose and vote for the crook. In Louisiana, in 1991, Governor Edwin Edwards faced off against KKK Leader David Duke. The entire Republican leadership of the nation, including President George H. W. Bush, condemned Duke. Edwards’s campaign circulated a bumper sticker that read, “Vote for the Crook: It’s Important.” Ken Paxton could run with the same bumper sticker. Talarico is a bridge too far for actual Christians. He announced that “God is non-binary,” doubled down on the remark and defended it to Jake Tapper on CNN, and now claims he did not mean it since it has become an issue. He has claimed there are “six sexes,” not just two, and discussed how he loves trans kids. He also wants an open border. Talarico even attends a church with books in the church library to teach kids about gay sex. “Among the books in the church library is ‘This Book Is Gay,’ which lays out the ‘ins and outs of gay sex’ for kids” ewerickson.substack.com/p/noting-not-u…

From “News Items” from @EllisItems (news-items.com): “1. The Pentagon has spent months positioning the troops and weapons needed for the U.S. to launch a military attack on Cuba — all it needs is a final go-ahead from President Trump. The president has floated an invasion of the island after economic and political pressure failed to topple the Communist government. But the Navy’s built-up presence in the region — the largest in the world outside the Middle East — would allow the U.S. to act immediately. These strategically placed assets set the table for military action, from a capture of Havana’s leadership much like the seizure of former Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, to a series of precision strikes. And they open the possibility that the U.S. throws itself into the third international conflict of the Trump administration. Cuba is “in a lot of trouble,” Secretary of State Marco Rubio said Wednesday at a full Cabinet meeting. “Having a failed state 90 miles from our shores is a threat to the national security of the United States.” (Source: politico.com)”

@baseballcrank @TacosFromGod I’m against court packing and don’t believe it will ever happen, it still wouldn’t be the end of the Constitution. Having 11 or 13 or whatever Justices wouldn’t be the end of the world. Might even be better over the long run.

@KenGardner11 It’s not just primary voters. Normal people just don’t want to go into politics anymore and have cleared the field for weirdos and crooks.

Paxton cheated on his wife repeatedly, moved in with his mistress after the divorce, and pleaded no contest to criminal charges related to corruption. This is Tallarico style heresy, but for Republicans.
Jesse Hughes ✝️🇺🇸@JesseHughesNC

Ken Paxton had private moral failings that he worked through and didn’t let affect his job, continuing to fight on behalf of the people of Texas. James Talarico wants you to believe that the story of Jesus’s birth justifies abortion. The choice has never been more clear.

“U.S. forces conducted new military strikes against Iran on Wednesday after Tehran launched drones at commercial ships in the Strait of Hormuz, according to U.S. officials, even as Washington and Tehran continue their efforts to forge a diplomatic settlement to the conflict and keep a fragile cease-fire intact.” @WSJ Hard not to conclude that there’s more than one group of “leaders” giving orders in the rump regime.

One of the perplexing things about MAGA is its apparent belief that Trump 2020 is like FDR 1932, that they sit astride an epoch defining realignment rather than a fractious slender majority.

Herman Wouk, Pulitzer Prize winning author of three of my favorite books, was born on this day in 1915. Inspired by his service on a minesweeper in the Pacific during World War II, Herman Wouk published THE CAINE MUTINY in 1951. It captivated the American public and became the most widely read novel of its time. The author adapted it into a Broadway play titled The Caine Mutiny Court-Martial in 1953 and it hit screens in the 1954 film starring Humphrey Bogart. Not surprisingly, the Navy was not pleased with Wouk’s fictional portrayal of one of their senior officers and insisted on changes before filming. In 1971 he would publish THE WINDS OF WAR, following it with WAR AND REMEMBRANCE in 1978, books that had a profound impact on me as a writer and a student of military history.  One of the greatest of all time, Herman Wouk passed away in May of 2019, just ten days shy of his 104th birthday.

@bonchieredstate That would be a major undertaking because it’s not just the straight. Iran has 1,000 miles of coastline along the the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman.

Maybe John Cornyn would have been more competitive had he given GOP voters a clear alternative to uber-MAGA scumbag Ken Paxton instead of offering voters only a weaker, softer, pastel toned version of pseudo-MAGA (anyone with half a brain knows he isn't really MAGA).
