I read an utterly amazing "prayer" on the DL recently, the "Litany of Loreto." Often Christians think that such prayers, which barely acknowledge Father, Son, and Spirit, but are focused upon Mary instead, are "fringe" or "extreme." Fact is, they are normal in Romanism, and in EOism as well. How mainstream? Here is the prayer I read as it is found on...the Vatican's official website. Read it for yourself. vatican.va/special/rosary…

On the contrary, Hebrews is profoundly Eucharistic. It does not abolish the altar, but enthrones Christ as the eternal High Priest after the order of Melchizedek, who himself offered bread and wine. He is both Offerer and Offering, the once-for-all Sacrifice whose Body and Blood, which is no less than the fruit of the tree of life, are made present in the apostolic liturgy, so that we may draw near with full assurance that “He who eats the flesh of the son of ma abides in me and I in Him.”

I truly do not understand how someone can honestly reading the book of Hebrews and remain a Roman Catholic. It shreds to pieces their entire sacramental system of atonement. If you’re a Roman Catholic, I urge you to read Hebrews front to back. And then read it again. And, more importantly, actually listen to what the Word of God says. I’m telling you, it’s much better that way.

Grace is understood as God's free, unmerited gift whereby human beings are elevated to share in the divine life itself. Wounded by original sin, humanity lost supernatural friendship with God that was intended from the first moment of creation. Grace restores and surpasses this original state, not by destroying human nature but by perfecting it from within. Through the redemptive work of Jesus Christ, grace is poured out abundantly by the Holy Spirit, making the baptized soul a partaker of the Trinity's inner life (2 Peter 1:4). Catholic teaching distinguishes primarily between sanctifying grace, a habitual and permanent gift that inheres in the soul and renders it holy and justified before God, and actual graces, which are particular divine illuminations and inspirations that prompt and assist the will in performing specific good acts. Grace is ordinarily conferred through the sacraments, visible signs instituted by Christ that efficaciously communicate invisible realities. Baptism initiates this life of grace by forgiving sin and infusing sanctifying grace, while the other sacraments sustain, nurture, or restore it according to the needs of the Christian journey. A hallmark of Catholic teaching on grace is the harmonious cooperation between divine initiative and human freedom. Although no one can merit the first grace of justification, the recipient must freely respond to and cooperate with God's ongoing assistance. This collaboration enables the performance of meritorious works that contribute to growth in holiness and final perseverance. Grace, therefore, empowers rather than supplants the human will, leading the Christian toward the fullness of charity and eventual union with God in the Beatific Vision.

@RGuillimanXIII In Japan they did not do what you are describing. They maintained the faith through baptisms which do not strictly require a priest and through the prayers and symbols of apostolic christianity. They knew they could not validly confect the eucharist or absolve sins.

As it turns out, this is not entirely a hypothetical. In the early 1600s, Japan purged all Christian priests. Suppose a group of Japanese Christian survivors met to continue practicing their faith in secret. There is no apostolic succession, because they're all dead. So they appoint one from among them to function as the priest, praying over bread and wine and distributing it to the faithful. Maybe it's the eldest, or maybe they take turns. Perhaps they even use noodles and rice wine for the Eucharist to avoid arousing suspicion at the market. Would such a Eucharist ceremony be "valid"?
Roboute Guilliman@RGuillimanXIII

A post-apocalyptic society rediscovers the Bible and wishes to accept Christ and implement his teachings. There is no apostolic succession as Rome no longer exists. From first principles, they develop their own creeds and rites, including their own version of the Eucharist. Would such a ceremony be "valid"?

What's more blasphemous, a picture implying you have supernatural healing powers, or a prayer to Mary in the middle of a prayer to the Holy Trinity? Source: vatican.va/special/rosary…

These verses all seem to say that, Michael. Ephesians 2:8-9 For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast. Romans 3:28. For we hold that one is justified by faith apart from works of the law. Galatians 2:16 yet we know that a person is not justified by works of the law but through faith in Jesus Christ, so we also have believed in Christ Jesus, in order to be justified by faith in Christ and not by works of the law, because by works of the law no one will be justified. Galatians 3:11 Now it is evident that no one is justified before God by the law, for “The righteous shall live by faith.” Romans 11:6 But if it is by grace, it is no longer on the basis of works; otherwise grace would no longer be grace. Acts 16:31 And they said, “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved, you and your household.” Romans 10:9 because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. John 3:16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. Romans 4:5 And to the one who does not work but believes in him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is counted as righteousness, Titus 3:5–7 he saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to his own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit, whom he poured out on us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that being justified by his grace we might become heirs according to the hope of eternal life. 2 Timothy 1:9 who saved us and called us to a holy calling, not because of our works but because of his own purpose and grace, which he gave us in Christ Jesus before the ages began,

How many times does the phrase "faith alone" appear in the Bible? And what specifically does the Bible say about "faith alone"?

Don't let Roman Catholics and the Orthodox convince you they own the church fathers. The reformers actually used the church fathers to prove Roman Catholics wrong in the Reformation.

In Luke 1:28, Gabriel says to Mary: “Χαῖρε, κεχαριτωμένη, ὁ Κύριος μετὰ σοῦ.” - chaire, kecharitōmenē, ho kyrios meta sou The Latin Vulgate, translated by Jerome, renders it: gratia plena = “full of grace” This translation became standard in Catholic tradition. The Greek Does NOT literally say “full of grace” There is no Greek word for “full” (like plērēs) in the text It does not describe Mary as a source or reservoir of grace The Greek doesn’t say Mary is “full of grace”—it says she has been graced. That’s very different. → Translated “Hail, O favored one, the Lord is with you!” (ESV) or “Greetings, O favored one, the Lord is with you!” (NIV). The verb chaire literally means “rejoice!” or “be glad.” It was also a common Greek salutation, roughly like saying “Greetings” or “Hello,” but with a tone of goodwill.

@LizzieMarbach @PryncessElf @farmingandJesus @CatholicFides @BreeSolstad Plērēs Charitos is grace as a powerful but temporary filling of God's divine life — His own nature and being — poured into a soul for a specific mission or moment. Stephen received this grace as God's divine life actively working through him to preach and perform miracles.

@KeithNester1 @TheBasedTrinity When you are saved, the forgiveness will naturally proceed from your salvation as a fruit. If you still do not forgive your brother, that probably indicates that your brother is not saved so you should talk about him on Twitter and let everyone know he is destined for hellfire

Even though Jesus said you must forgive your brother from your heart to be saved, you don't really need to do that because it's a "work," and Ephesians 2 says salvation is not by "works."

Ryan Hemelaar of @needGod_net posted a video of himself making YET ANOTHER incredibly stupid argument. On one hand, Ryan is no stranger to posting videos of himself lacking the common sense and basic reading comprehension skills necessary to understand a simple concept. On the other hand, today is April Fool’s Day, and it is possible that this particular romp into stupidity is just being done as a joke by Ryan. So, Ryan, can you let us know whether (a) you are seriously making this dumb of an argument, or (b) you are making this mind-numbingly stupid argument as a joke? Thank you!
