Brazil is one of only 5 countries in the world that produces commercial passenger aircraft. It's in #3 position by volume. It speaks Portuguese. Unless it was colonized and united, it would never have produced those aircraft. Imagine trying to design an Embraer using the top 5 indigenous languages of that region.
