In the context of a discussion, if you don't respond to the points I have made or the questions I have asked, I will initially assume that it's just an oversight. Happens to us all. If you continue to do it, I will assume you lack basic courtesy. If it still continues, I will assume you lack the ability to respond intelligently. And if it continues further, I will assume you lack honesty.

Praying to anyone other than God is idolatry. Bowing to and directing prayers to a statue of anyone or anything even if you say it is depicting Jesus is idolatry.

I don't necessarily accept the premise of your question even though I do believe it is genuine. Before I became Catholic, I would have likely had the same thought but I think in retrospect it was a bit of confirmation bias on my part. I think a better question is what does the Church actually teach because that is often not the topic of these threads. Instead, it a bit of straw manning on the part of the usual suspects.

Genuine question to any Catholic who might see this: How come when I see Catholics post images online, put posters on their car or paintings in their home, or even pray, it's by far more often aimed towards Mary instead of Jesus? Is there a biblical or historical reason for this that I'm not aware of?

1. That's NOT Jesus, that's a statue. 2. Who is wearing the crown in this picture? Who is being exalted? Not Jesus. Anyone looking at this would conclude that Mary is the one you worship, not Jesus. This is the same with a lot of the paintings of Mary and Jesus. Mary is always the one being exalted, Christ is like a side note that just gets thrown in. Shame on Roman Catholics.

Mary was not a perpetual virgin. That would have made her marriage to Joseph null and void. I've never understood the need or desire to believe Mary was a perpetual virgin. Sex within marriage is expected and normal in a faithful marriage.

No, dude. You don't get to flip this. This belief, which is rooted in longstanding Christian belief for 1500+ years is what YOU are deviating from. What is the genesis of your new belief and why do you think that all of sudden guys like you came along to correct every Christian before you? Why is it so important to you that Mary is EXPECTED to have sex?

@Peter94847717 @Messianic73 Nah. Everyone just took it for granted for 1500+ years until guys like Chris and Peter showed up to correct everyone else in their understanding of the Christianity and proclaiming that Mary is EXPECTED to have sex. It's your hang up, mate.

Eve being a 'type' for Mary in no way means it is an exact parallel than for Adam (or David) being a 'type' for Christ. Types are a foreshadowing of the real thing. Recognizing Mary as the "New Ark" isn't just a Biblical revelation from Scripture, it aligns given the original Ark carried the Law/Tablets (God's Word), Manna (Bread from Heaven), and Aaron's Rod (Priesthood) just like she bore Christ who is the Word made flesh, the Bread of Life, and the eternal High Priest. We also know from Scripture that those who touched the Ark wrongly perished. Serious question. Can you think of any man who would want to touch Mary in a marital way knowing that she had carried God incarnate? I can't think of any discerning man who would go there. Certainly not a holy man like Joseph.

I am assuming I’ve triggered the Catholic Patriarchy Bros? Or maybe the Catholic version or Cage Stage Calvinists? Muting that whole cursed thread. I find the parallels between Eve and Mary interesting, however since Eve had children it’s not a great argument for Mary’s perpetual virginity. Fascinating, but not relevant to that issue. The Ark idea is the best argument, but I mean … the Ark didn’t eat or sleep either. It was a box. So I’m not following how “you wouldn’t have sex with the Ark” is relevant. Duh. It was a large gold box. You’re mixing the literal with the metaphorical and it’s just not working. Regardless, the gross men in my replies are a terrible witness and doing more to disgust me than help me understand. Talking about “penetration of the holy chalice” or whatever, honestly sounds like something a serial rapist would say. It’s creepy as hell. I cannot imagine Mary would want people talking about her like that. Seriously, for men who claim to honor Mary, they sure seem to think about her sex life a lot. Hypocrites. Muting this and not checking because I’m tired of the perverts.

Well, it is biblical and historical. Scripture tells us that Mary was betrothed to Joseph meaning they had celebrated "erusin" but not the "nissuin" which in that time happened about a year later. In Jewish custom at that time, the couple was considered "legally married" but lived apart for a year and did not engage in sexual relations. Only after the nissuin, were they "fully married" and could then engage in the marital act. There is no biblical nor historical evidence of Mary and Joseph celebrating the nissuin.

@TheCatholicEngr @JennMGreenberg That is totally false. Not biblical or historical. The marriage was when it was consummated. Mary knew she would be looked at as sinful woman be being pregnant duuring her betrothel.

You think that the early Christians all through the first 1500+ years of the Church simply just missed what you bring up? Are we to believe that it just took modern people to understand the Bible? Also, why do you think Mary and Joseph completed the Nissuin given the Bible never mentions it?

@garrettham_esq You don’t think the verses about Jesus’s siblings contradict it? For example, Matthew 12:46 “While he was still speaking to the people, behold, his mother and his brothers stood outside, asking to speak to him.” It seems very unlikely to mean cousins in this context.

I agree with the Bible’s view! Mary honored her marriage vows with Joseph and consummated their marriage! Why do Catholics dishonor Mary and why does she have to be a virgin for your Catholic theology to operate? @michaeljknowles let’s set up a charitable conversation!
Michael Knowles@michaeljknowles

When it comes to the perpetual virginity of Mary, do you agree with the Catholic view or with the view of Protestant reformers Martin Luther, Ulrich Zwingli, and John Wesley?

Uh, yeah. It ain't true. There 4 times more Roman Catholics becoming Protestant than those becoming papists. And there are still more Protestants than papists among Gen Z. Furthermore, the Roman Catholic "church" has had its lampstand removed. The Holy Spirit ain't there.
