Africa remains central to @IFAD's investment model, with nearly 60% of our core resources directed to the continent. That is why I am in #Nairobi for the Africa Forward Summit. At a time of growing geopolitical fragmentation, fiscal pressure and contracting aid flows, the conversation taking place here is an important one - how to mobilize investment, build productive sectors, expand opportunity and create jobs. At the Summit, it means I will be advancing three priorities: • Positioning agriculture and rural economies where they belong: at the centre of economic policy, as drivers of growth, employment, stability and resilience. • Strengthening IFAD’s role as a co-investment platform capable of crowding in greater public and private investment at the first mile of food systems, where investment has the greatest multiplier effect. • Building strong momentum for #IFAD14 and reinforcing the global case for sustained investment in rural economies. The discussions I will be having with African Heads of State, partners and the private sector reflect a shared understanding, development must increasingly be driven by investment, implementation and economic transformation. #FinancingTheFirstMile | #AfricaForward

Agriculture is a critical sector that secures our food security and is the largest employer in Kenya. Consequently, it is a major enabler in our fight against poverty and the efforts to accelerate development. We are committed to assembling tools that will empower our farmers with better incomes, enhancing their capabilities to produce more and innovate. With the International Fund of Agricultural Development (IFAD), we have invested in agriculture in our quest to broaden financing options for the transformation of agri-food systems. Pleased to meet IFAD President Alvaro Lario, Rome, Italy. Thanked him for the institution’s $40 million (KSh5.2 billion) support for the dairy sector. Additionally, commended IFAD for the planned roll-out of phase two of $263 million (KSh34 billion) support for small-scale farmers in the next three years.

Alvaro Lario@IFADPresident

It was a pleasure to meet H.E. @WilliamsRuto, President of the Republic of #Kenya, in Rome today. Our discussion reaffirmed Kenya’s longstanding partnership with @IFAD and its continued commitment to the organization. Over more than four decades, IFAD’s partnership with Kenya has supported rural transformation through integrated investments in productivity, resilience, markets, and finance. This includes 21 projects totalling US$1.25 billion, with US$582 million in direct IFAD financing, reaching 4.2 million rural people. A central focus of this partnership is investing in young women and men. More than 200,000 youth have been engaged as entrepreneurs, workers, and value chain actors. Through initiatives such as agribusiness hubs, climate-resilient value chains, and innovative rural finance under the RK-FINFA programme, IFAD is helping transform agri-food systems into engines of jobs, enterprise creation, and inclusive growth, aligned with Kenya’s Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda. As we advance towards #IFAD14, Kenya’s leadership will be critical. It signals African-led ambition in financing agri-food system transformation and helps shape the future of rural development financing across the continent. I look forward to continuing this dialogue with the President in #Nairobi at the #AfricaForward Summit next month, where IFAD sees a key opportunity to position agriculture, youth employment, and rural finance at the centre of the Africa–France partnership and the broader global agenda. #FinancingTheFirstMile

The launch of Kenya’s National Blue Economy Strategy 2025–2030 by the Cabinet Secretary for Mining Blue Economy and Martime Affairs @MiBeMa_2022 H.E @HassanAliJoho marks a defining step in anchoring our oceans, lakes and aquatic resources at the heart of national development. The Strategy consolidates the progress made since the 2018 Nairobi Sustainable Blue Economy Conference and aligns firmly with Vision 2030, the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda and our State Department for Blue Economy and Fisheries @Blue_Economy_F Strategic Plan. It clearly positions the blue economy and fisheries as key drivers of inclusive growth, job creation and environmental stewardship. As we advance this agenda, we also reaffirm Kenya’s readiness to host the 11th Our Ocean Conference @OurOceanOOC in Mombasa from 16th–18th June 2026 a global platform to strengthen partnerships and accelerate action for sustainable ocean management. I appreciate all our partners, development agencies, Members of Parliament led by Committee on Blue Economy, Water and Irrigation Chairman @HonKangogoBowen, fellow Principal Secretaries PS Mining @KimtaiHarry , PS Shipping and Maritime Affairs @ps_adenmillah,PS Science, Research and Innovation @Profshaukat, the diplomatic corps,@EUinKenya @EUAmbKenya @FranceinKenya, Development Partners @IFAD,@IFADEastAfrica,@WorldBankAfrica,State Agencies @KmfriResearch @kefs_kenya,@Kenya__Fish @KFICLiwatoni,private sector leaders and all the stakeholders whose collaboration continues to propel this agenda forward.

The International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) is a long-standing development partner in Kenya, focusing on agriculture, rural development, and poverty reduction. During a meeting at my office with IFAD delegation led by Ms Mariatu Kamara, IFAD Country Director, we discussed IFAD's work in dairy development, livestock, aquaculture, and climate resilience, and shared ideas on enhancing impact and effectiveness. I urged them to explore opportunities towards scaling up climate action, optimising livestock genetics, and establishing centres of excellence for county-level capacity augmentation, advancing priorities on food security, nutrition, and rural job creation which are part of the government's agenda in accelerating national development. @IFAD
