TPLF Rebuts Getachew Reda's Article, Accuses Him of ‘Rewriting History’ of The War on Tigray ---- Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) has issued a lengthy statement rejecting recent claims made by former Tigray interim administration president Getachew Reda in an article published by The Africa Report, accusing him of promoting a “revisionist narrative” about the origins and aftermath of the war on Tigray. In a statement addressed to diplomatic missions and “all those seeking the truth,” TPLF said Getachew’s article, titled “Ethiopia: Tigray is Being Led to the Brink,” distorts the causes of the war and shifts responsibility away from Ethiopian Prime Minister and his government. The party rejected claims that the war was triggered by Tigray’s 2020 regional election, arguing that the war on Tigray was preceded by what it described as political isolation, economic pressure, military encirclement, and anti-Tigrayan rhetoric. TPLF also accused Getachew of failing to hold the federal government accountable for what it called delays in implementing the Pretoria Peace Agreement, including the return of displaced people, restoration of territorial integrity of Tigray, accountability for wartime atrocities, and post-war reconstruction. The statement further criticized Getachew for condemning what it described as Tigray’s self-defense preparations while remaining silent on alleged federal military build-up around Tigray. It also raised concerns over his leadership during the interim administration, alleging that evidence linked to the war was removed and that individuals accused of war crimes were transferred to federal custody under unclear circumstances. TPLF said growing frustration in Tigray stems from what it described as the failure of the peace agreement to deliver justice, security, and the return of displaced communities. Concluding its statement, the party defended its decision to reinstate Tigray’s pre-war governing structure, saying the move was driven by the absence of a “credible alternative” and warning against what it called prolonged political arrangements that leave Tigray vulnerable.

As in many other peoples’ struggle for freedom and national self determination, the peoples of #Tigray have their own share of elements among their ranks who work hand in glove with their adversaries. Opportunism and betrayal are common phenomena as the national struggle hardens demanding more commitment from those who professed to spearhead the struggle but unfortunately who drop out of the struggle, taking the easy way out and joining their enemies. Failure in leadership, changing sides have become common phenomena obviously compromising the aspirations of the peoples of Tigray. Re: they appear to ignore #TigrayGenocide - the catastrophe of our century - trash the aspirations of their people that paid unimaginable sacrifices, ignoring future demands for justice and accountability and de facto forgiving the actors who orchestrated and committed the catastrophe. That’s opportunism par excellence, protecting ones personal interests - socioeconomic and political- being subservient to genocidal enemies, and worse, advancing agendas of génocidaire @AbiyAhmedAli. #Tigray is being pushed and headed to the abyss and some Tigrayan actors have been working as facilitators and more are joining them along the road. The tragedy of Tigray exemplified.

Mr. Ambassador @TiborPNagyJr, you noted that Getachew “makes two indisputable points: the recent war devastated Tigray, and renewed conflict would do so again.” But why present this as a novel insight? Tigrayan politicians and scholars have emphasized these points for years. The key difference is credibility, Getachew’s shifting positions make his statements difficult to take seriously, as they often appear aimed at appeasing whichever audience holds influence at the moment. It is also hard to believe you overlooked the repeated appeals from Tigray to the Prosperity Party, the African Union, and the broader international community to uphold and fully implement the #COHA. You are aware that Prime Minister Abiy effectively undermined the agreement by revoking the TPLF’s legal party status, despite it being a signatory, and by failing to ensure the withdrawal of external forces from Tigray. I hope @TheAfricaReport will also publish the TPLF’s rejoinder to provide a more balanced perspective. @addisstandardam @tigraionline @DawitSeyoum14 @TghatMedia @addisstandard

Getachaw Reda's @TheAfricaReport op-ed will be either hated or loved - but he makes 2 indisputable points. The recent war devastated Tigray, and renewed conflict would do it again. Leaders decide but people suffer. No excuse to do this again. God forbid! theafricareport.com/417910/ethiopi…

In response to the continuing risk of genocide and mass atrocities in #Ethiopia, Genocide Watch calls for: • States and relevant parties to charge Ethiopia with violations of the U.N. Genocide Convention at the International Court of Justice for genocide in Tigray • The @UN_HRC to establish a Fact‑Finding Mission to investigate massacres and other atrocities committed by Ethiopian and Eritrean forces and regional militias • The @UN and African institutions to support mediation between the Ethiopian and Eritrean governments to reduce escalating tensions and prevent further conflict Prevention, accountability, and international engagement are essential to protecting civilians and preventing further atrocities in #Tigray & #Ethiopia.

Why does #Ethiopia remain at high risk of genocide? Over five years after #TigrayGenocide, there has been no accountability for mass atrocities. Independent investigations confirm that Ethiopian and Eritrean forces committed genocide against Tigrayans, yet perpetrators remain unpunished. Today, #Tigray|ans continue to face discrimination, including arbitrary detention and restrictions on movement, while nearly 800,000 people remain internally displaced, relying on informal support networks amid food shortages, limited medical access, and aid cuts. At the same time, violence against civilians in regional conflicts in Amhara and Oromia continues. In the absence of accountability, denial and impunity heighten the risk of renewed mass atrocity crimes. In this context, denial and impunity increase the danger of renewed violence and mass atrocity crimes.

There is an ongoing threat of genocide and other mass atrocities in #Ethiopia. In April 2026, @genocidewatch published an Ethiopia Country Report. They have determined that Ethiopia is currently at: ‼️Stage 3: Discrimination ‼️Stage 5: Organization ‼️Stage 10: Denial This determination is based on violence against civilians in ongoing regional conflicts, escalating tensions, and the continued denial of atrocities committed in #Tigray. genocidewatch.com/single-post/et…

Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (PhD) has urged Ethiopians to look past divisive identities and focus on the "existential" goal of securing a sea outlet for the nation’s economic future. The prime minister addressed the media’s role in national discourse, challenging journalists to prioritize the country's collective interests. He specifically pointed to the maritime access issue, stating that for a nation of over 120 million, a sea port is a fundamental economic necessity. #Ethiopia #AbiyAhmed #SeaOutlet #Economy #EBC ebc.et/english/Home/N…
