@appraise_brain @JTCestkowski @PEWilliams_ America is a mixed economy, w/ both capitalist& socialist elements. Doesn't make sense to label a politician 1 or the other Rather, evaluate individual policies. Anything that encourages private ownership (like small business) is by definition capitalist

We now have an answer to the question of "is NYC just doing good social media posts about service delivery, or is service delivery actually changing?"

@nithyavraman If you abandon the "socialist" label, I believe you'll win in a landslide. These solutions you're proposing fit the "restoring capitalism" label much better. And I'm personally very on board.

Let’s lower the rent! As mayor, I will triple housing production by cutting red tape, lowering costs, and eliminating pointless bureaucracy.

@PeachFrog99 @KirkLubimov I would respectfully disagree there. The numbers (40+% of America's GDP comes from small biz) say otherwise. The headlines only focus on the big guys. But if you walk the streets reality tells a different story. But maybe where you live is a factor as well

@WhoRfk36331 @KirkLubimov i feel like in america that ship has long sailed. corporations have all the power and use it to kill small business. in technology, restaurants... nobody has a chance. we are forced to work for the corporation. it's not like that everywhere.

This is the best part from Pierre Poilievre appearance on the Diary of a CEO podcast; "Those who push a socialist ideology have a gross contradiction in their view of human nature. They say that human beings are wretched, self-interested, greedy when they’re in the private voluntary economy, but they’re angels when they’re in the governmental economy. They argue that the government should just control everything because then we have all these angels that will decide for us." 🎯

@WhoRfk36331 @KirkLubimov and they vote with their money by going to chain restaurants. there is no protection for the small businesses and they can't compete. that's where government could help to protect small business. we wouldn't have a 60% obesity rate either

@PeachFrog99 @KirkLubimov Overall, small biz makes up over 40% of the US GDP. In California there are an insane # of mom/pop restaurants. Gov favoritism is the opposite of capitalism. Capitalism requires competitive markets, where consumers - not gov - vote w/ their $ from a variety of options.

@WhoRfk36331 @KirkLubimov restaurants and small businesses almost don't exist because there is a mcdonalds/starbucks/walmart on every corner and amazon selling everything under the sun. that's the problem with capitalism. government favoritism is one way of saying unfettered unregulated capitalism

@PeachFrog99 @KirkLubimov Restaurants, spas, tailors, barbers, authors, private musicians, farmers markets, small businesses in general - all capitalism that benefits society The real problem is corporations that maintain monopolies thanks to government favoritism

DC spent years trying to rein in Big Tech platform abuse and failed. With California's BASED Act (SB 1074), we're taking the fight to their backyard. Amazon, Apple, Google, Meta — no more rigging the game against startups. gli.st/hclhp6oj

Easy solution to stopping socialism and AI anxiety: get half of those of us lucky enough to be in the top 1% to commit to a new "giving pledge" where they give 5% of their stock/net worth to @InvestAmerica24 accounts --- like @SusanDell and @MichaelDell did. ... as opposed to giving your money to the dysfunctional. non-profit industrial complex. tell me why I'm wrong in the comments in a thoughtful way

@mattyglesias Instead of giving away their money, wouldn't it be more helpful for the lower class if they: A) Funded a bunch of small businesses B) Spent a bunch of their money on small businesses I feel like charity often becomes a well-meaning blackhole for money

Rich people should be giving away more of there money, there’s lots of good causes out there. (You should probably be more charitable too but the billionaires have more money so it matters more) slowboring.com/p/the-real-pro…

One thing that's depressing about Vance as Trump's heir is that if he moves the GOP toward populist economics, we're no longer have free market red states with which to point out the failures of leftism. We'll just think slow growth is inevitable. richardhanania.com/p/despite-abun…

@sdamico Unironically good news. Let them lower the threshold to $1 million. That should wake everyone up as to how nuts this idea is. The more people who are potentially affected, the better chance America turns on these ppl.

@PremiumAge11036 @mcuban @BernieSanders Bernie loves to complain abt issues, but is completely oblivious as to how to actually make it better. He rightly complains about rising cost of housing. His state VT is in housing crisis. Yet not 1 word from him abt building more housing in VT, which would actually lower costs

@mcuban @BernieSanders I get the frustration, but you’re jumping a bit ahead on assigning positions. If you’re serious about this, the stronger move is asking for their actual stance on the Break Up Big Medicine Act instead of assuming they’re ignoring it.

Hey @BernieSanders, look up who owns HealthFirst, the insurer that cut off her insurance for a nickel and explain to us all why you are not actively supporting the Break Up Big Medicine Bill ? Why am I calling you out first ? Because you know how HC works and there is zero route to single payer , or for those opposed to single payer, an efficient HC market, until they biggest insurance companies are required to divest non insurance assets @SenWarren @SenRonJohnson @SenGillibrand @HawleyMO @BillCassidy @RepBuddyCarter kffhealthnews.org/news/article/i…

@signulll 100% spot on. Other countries seem less racist bc they never gave themselves the "opportunity" to be racist in the first place. As in, they don't pretend other ethnicites can become true members of this country. Only the West holds this belief.

america is one of very few countries that has even tried to build a multiethnic democracy at scale, & the fact that it has a visible, loud, ongoing discourse about racism is actually evidence of relatively low tolerance for it compared to countries where racial hierarchy is just... ambient & unremarked upon. japan (lol very obvious now), korea, much of europe, india's caste system, han chauvinism in china, ethnic dynamics across the gulf states.. most of these societies don't even have the vocabulary for the conversation america tortures itself over daily. america is quite literally is one of the least if not the least racist countries on the planet, & it's not even close.

Let me help rephrase for you Bernie. Need a loan for college so you can party for a semester and drop out? Taxpayers will loan you money for it. Need an SBA loan for your business ? Taxpayers will guarantee it. For a house ? Taxpayers will guarantee it. And local gov will give you money for your first down payment ! Get sick or are in an accident and you can’t afford your deductible, insurance company denied prescribed care or are uninsured ? You are on your own 😤 Let me add Bernie, the one debt not a single one of us will ever pay off till the day we die ? Our health insurance premiums And before you go in and on about single payer, ask @claudeai to take a look at your proposed Single Payer legislation. You want the Sec of HHS to run it. You can’t have a political appointee run an apolitical position And you expect every provider and doctor to accept whatever rate is set by Medicare. Big hospitals don’t know their costs. They couldn’t do a BOM for any procedure. They have negligible transparency. If they don’t know their costs, and you don’t know their costs, how is it possible for taxpayers, caregivers and patients to get a fair deal ? And the concept of “every other country does it “ ignores the fact that they all converted decades and decades ago, long before you and your peers allowed the extreme vertical integration we face now. Which leads to the question. @BernieSanders , why have you not advocated for the Break Up Big Medicine Bill ?
Bernie Sanders@BernieSanders

Health care? "You're on your own." Housing? "Nothing we can do." Grocery prices? "You're out of luck." $200 billion for another war? "No problem!" Americans—Democrats, Republicans, independents—are SICK AND TIRED of endless wars. We need to invest here at home.

Very confused why Zohran ran on evil things like taxing white people extra and freezing rent only to flip once elected and run based policies like congestion tax and construction streamlining. Was this all just a neolib scam to get Brooklyn race communists to canvas for them?
