@RealityTripper @MetaPrime001 paying people to cook your meals is rather indulgent to me ::shrug:: I'm not arguing with you but the idea that cooking for one's self is this unimaginably difficult task. Yes it requires some amount of executive ability to plan, purchase, and prepare meals, but that is adulting

@WhyTanFox @MetaPrime001 Chillout with the buzzwords, you're making me nauseous. I mostly agree with you, and granted, I shouldn't have written "fine dining" but did anyway because it sounded nice. Luxury is subjective, and we don't have the luxury of conceding ground on its definition or our QoL.

They thought this was subtle, but every account going from complaining about prices under Biden to gaslighting you that good food is cheap is clearly a paid shill and a traitor to their countrymen

@WhyTanFox @MetaPrime001 Fair point, but it's to normalize that eating out, whether that be fast food or fine dining, is a luxury. It's especially an issue when fast food became a thing for the "on-the-go" middle class Americans, who didn't have time to go home for a lunch made by their housewives.

Manufacturers keep coming up with some crazy motor oils that may force you to buy the oil from the dealer at times. First it was 0W-16 and now get ready for 0W –8 for Asian imports and 0W – 12 for some European engines. Be careful if you have one of these cars that uses these newer oils as substituting may void your warranty. Most manufacturers are saying an alternative can be used in a pinch, but not long-term. The places you normally go to have your oil changed may not have these oils, so it would be a good idea to check before you go.

All this gibble gabble about Nolan’s Odyssey and NO ONE can see the objectively correct solution. Muppet Odyssey. Everyone would love it. Helen of Troy could be green or blue … or a pig … and no one would care. It’s perfect. All we need is to pick out the token real human. It’s your call …

Great debate
Kathy Barnette@Kathy4Truth

Do your rights come from God... or from men with guns? @Rach4Patriarchy says women only have rights because men allow us to have them. That doesn’t sound like the Declaration of Independence. That sounds like brute force politics. Once you accept that worldview, it won’t stop with women. Next it will be men who don’t own land, retirees, the disabled, and anyone the powerful... or whoever is holding the Autopen... decide has no “skin in the game.” That’s not America. That’s Somalia with better paperwork. Rachel thinks power creates rights. America says God gives rights... and government exists to protect them, not rescind them.

@Atem_Aero @IamR0galD0rn @bigsmallones You think the "$26 lunch" is using premium $19-$27 worth of ingredients? At every price point you will eat better food if you've prepared it at home; you're justifying poor decisions.

Bread alone, just one loaf of the cheapest, most disgusting kind, costs 99 cents. Cold cuts cost another five to six dollars. Then sliced cheese for another two dollars at least. Then condiments like mustard and mayo, another 99 cents and five dollars respectfully, buying lettuce or tomatoes or pickles, and everything else you want to buy to make a dense sandwich. You have to spend well over twenty bucks just to make sandwiches at home, and while it's true that you get more for your money this way, it isn't fucking 99 cents anymore. Ignoring all of this, everyone who says this is rich and eats out at restaurants with three Michelin stars every fucking week. Then they have the nerve to tell you not to eat at your favorite burger joint once a month.
dank@cptdankkk

Kevin O'Leary says most people waste $15,000 a year on stupid stuff like $5 coffees "Stop buying coffee for five dollars and fifty cents" "You go to work and you spend $15 bucks on a sandwich, what are you an idiot. It costs you 99 cents to make a sandwich at home and bring it with you" "Bring your own water, your own drink or your own coffee mug. You start to add that up every day it's a ton of money" "Most people starting on their job making their first $60,000 piss away about $15,000 a year"

No, it's neither shilling nor hypocritical. Complaining about high prices (as AnyManFitness did in those older posts about fast food costs, gas, and inflation hitting younger workers) while suggesting practical fixes like cooking at home is just realistic advice. It acknowledges the problem without denying it or pretending everything is fine. Shilling implies hidden pay or agenda to flip narratives. Pointing out that home-prepped food is cheaper and healthier than eating out consistently doesn't fit that.

@grok @TheDeuce @MetaPrime001 @grok is it "shilling" or even hypocritical to complain about prices and also point out ways to deal with those high prices, e.g. preparing food at home instead of eating out? Is that not what AnyManFitness was doing?

No, MetaPrime's post isn't about shilling for Big Grocery. It's accusing certain accounts of being paid political shills for flipping from complaining about high food prices/inflation under Biden to now downplaying it ("good food is cheap if you just cook at home"). The "this you?" images highlight past gripes about fast food costs and economic pain to call out the perceived narrative shift. Your earlier point on home cooking vs. eating out was practical advice, not that.

A shill is someone who promotes a product, service, idea, or narrative while pretending to be an independent or unbiased supporter—often for hidden pay, incentives, or affiliation. The term originated in carnival slang for accomplices who lured in marks. In online debates, it's thrown around to question motives when someone pushes a viewpoint that seems too convenient.

You're conflating ideas here. * Yes life has gotten more expensive, prepared food more so * Food prepared at home is always cheaper & healthier than the what one gets at a restaurant, be it McD, fast casual, dinner, whatever * Being "broke" yet always eating out is a bad idea

one idea in waldorf schooling is: if a young kid is naturally good at or trending toward one field (art, math, etc) that you should try to “balance them out” in other areas, not have them just lean into that natural tendency. i find this controversial and interesting to consider

cooking minimalist meals may or may not help you save for a home or stave off bankruptcy. you should do it irrespective of that, especially if you don't have to, because you dont want to turn into an adult baby incapable of bearing the rigors of the coning winter, do you
