@jennibu @jenteach13 Support, intervention, etc. are augments to the current system. Some kids just aren’t able to thrive in that system, and no amount of augmenting will change that. It’s like saying, after we try to slap a band-aid on a wound, that what we needed was a bigger band-aid.

@jennibu @jenteach13 I agree with parts of what you’re saying there. I definitely don’t assume you mean adding to admin. My wife is a literacy interventionist, she is involved in what you’re talking about pretty much every day. But your 3rd paragraph is why I disagree with parts of your second one:

@jennibu @jenteach13 Better monitors, better operating systems, and better RAM doesn’t help a computer run better when there is no power cord. More funding, more support, and more interventions wont actually fix the problem. Removing the kid won’t fix that kid, but it will 100% help the rest.

@jenteach13 Is that really the answer? Or is properly funding schools, support staff, and meaningful interventions a better solution than simply removing children?

@benny_thejet_30 @Velo_doc Its true that there are some terrible high school coaches that do a bad job. Some are straight awful But its also true that every bad parent claims their particular coach is a bad coach. Not all parents are good either and blanket statements in support of parents does damage too

@Velo_doc A lot of HS coaches get paid for doing nothing and perform terribly. Not all coaches are good. Not all situations are the same. Making a blanket statement like that just gives bad coaches more power.

If you are a parent trying to run a HS coach off for your kid not playing I got news for ya You are doing your kid a disservice, you are probably a bad person, and in the long run you’ll definitely find that out The stories I’m hearing from multiple HCs across DFW are baffling and some of yall need a reality check for dang sure Raising spoiled brats ain’t it yall

@JermaineCurtis Convert “games” to “innings” or “play time,” and revisit? A professional or NCAA double-header is 18 innings over about 4hrs plus a break. A travel team might play “4 games” that are 4-5 innings each. That’s 18 innings on average, probably played over 5-6hrs total

@Arockalyps @realmikeblair @JomboyMedia “Receive the pitch and immediately challenge” is not the rule. The rule is immediately after the umpires call and after any play that resolved, but without any help from the dugout. Within 2 seconds of the call, unless there is a play on the field, is the rule guidance.

@realmikeblair @JomboyMedia They aren’t in time. You receive the pitch and immediately challenge. Not draw your hand back to throw the ball and then challenge or have the guy out of the box before you challenge. Knowing the actual rules of it might help.

@FiskPT Well. They can’t be legally trucked. But umpires need to call obstruction properly, and plenty of scumbag coaches deliberately trust that they can trust umps not to call it and teach players to subtlety obstruct on purpose.

Youth coaches: Please teach your fiielders the difference between a force play and a tag play and to get off the base when there is no play. This middle-school 3B could have legally gotten trucked twice, and nobody wants that.

@CoachSwit An incredibly significant number of “coaches,” even up at the higher end of NCAA, don’t actually want to coach anything, they just want to organize and game-manage the talent they have. If there is a problem, their solution isn’t to coach it away, it’s to recruit it away.

Never understood H.S. coaches who ignore freshman or JV programs. That’s the future of your varsity team. Then they complain about no depth, culture, or players ready for varsity. If you only coach varsity, you’re not building a program—you’re just coaching a team.

@MattWalshBlog Supporting the state having execution power =\= agreeing that this guy deserves to die. Thats a bait & switch Of course he does. Prefer by hanging or guillotine. That doesn’t make the state good stewards of the power to kill you for your actions. They have killed innocents too.

I am challenging any death penalty opponent — there are millions of them, allegedly — to step up to the plate right now and explain why this guy should not be executed. His guilt is established beyond any doubt whatsoever. His crime is utterly savage and heinous. Tell us why he doesn’t deserve to die. Go ahead.

@coachmartin24 I’ll say again this varies with the sport in question. If you are a baseball/softball player there is a 0% chance a non-travel player will make their team over a travel player. And even less than 0% that they will get exposure. If you play basketball, it’s totally different.

Let me clarify here. If your kid loves it and you are willing to pay it then more power to you. I just don’t like pushing the idea that it’s the only way they are ever going to play high school ball or get exposure or that it’s a must to do it.
Chad Martin@coachmartin24

This way of thinking is a big part of what has gone completely wrong with youth sports these days. Kids need to be kids and they need to play normal rec league and different sports.

@coachdeesmith This depends wildly on the sport. I agree that travel sports is headed a bad, silly-$$ direction. But thinking HS wins are more important than travel wins are, for certain sports, a joke. And thinking people develop well enough is all sports in just rec is a circus.

My oldest kid never played tackle football until 9th grade. He played rec league flag football in the city. We spent about $70 per season, plus cleats. He was All CIF, All League, Team Captain and team's most valuable offensive player twice, as a lineman. 150 kids in the program.
Jason Helmes@anymanfitness

Bad news, dude: If your kid doesn’t play travel/AAU they have no chance of playing varsity in high school. Only exceptions would be small, rural schools without many players to choose from. Any decent sized high school, every kid on varsity plays travel.

@BBGreatMoments There’s a handful of guys I would choose to build around over these guys’ career, but the question isn’t totally clear. Do you mean who would you take right now? Do you mean whose career would you prefer to build around? Are we projecting end-of-career, or taking now?

@drantbradley Which education system produced that? I assume your point is that people who have <6th-grade reading probably cant, and illiterate people definitely cant, teach their own kids But you’re also saying they REALLY should put them in a system that probably won’t make them literate
