Only 17m BTC had been mined by mid 2018, with a portion of them locked away by Satoshi or lost by others, so it’s not even reasonable to expect Buffett would’ve or even could’ve bought 14m. Theoretically interesting thought but realistically impossible to execute, without even considering the price implications

Berkshire Hathaway was sitting on $100 billion of cash in 2018. If they used half of that cash to acquire bitcoin at $3,500 per BTC, they would have acquired 14,285,714 BTC. Today that position would be worth $1.12 trillion, greater than the market cap of the entire company.

@willywoo @PeterSchiff Hey willywoo, Max Keiser has repeatedly said he first urged Peter Schiff to buy Bitcoin in 2011 when it was around $1 (and again later at $10, under $100, etc.). Schiff passed, calling it a bad/shit investment at the time—just like his take today at $78k. History rhymes.

Anyone paying $78,000 to buy Bitcoin is not getting in cheap. Based on the historic price range in which Bitcoin has traded since inception, $78,000 is a very high price to pay. Just because some people paid more, that does not mean paying less than they did is a bargain.
