@BritishHodl It's just your social circle; for millenials and younger, household income directly correlates with alcohol consumption. In the US, less disposable income = less consumption. When adjusted for income, consumption across generations is the same.

I stopped drinking alcohol a while back - twice a year I might have a glass of wine - but I've noticed more and more of my wealthy friends under 45 are not drinking alcohol at all - what's happened here?

@AdamBLiv @RoaringRagnar @C_Angermayer On the flipside, how much smaller would the human population be (as a result of our ancestors having never been born) if alcohol had never existed ? I get LDS teachings are vehemently opposed to fermented beverages, but Joe Smith might've never been born without it.

@RoaringRagnar @C_Angermayer I routinely make this point to my friends + family. Alcohol has been infinitely more destructive to society than any other drug and it isn't even close.

I suppose I could have learned this lesson four months sooner when Trump alluded to Rand Paul being ugly on a national debate stage before he surged in the polls. Sometimes reality needs to punch you in the face for you to learn.

I love the Paul family. Ron + Rand are awesome. I read End the Fed by Ron Paul as a young high school student and it blew my mind. His 2012 presidential campaign was really when I first got interested in politics and the libertarian faction of the right wing was very appealing to me at the time. I caucused for Rand Paul in 2015. I was a 19 year old kid in rural Iowa and I will never forget what that experience was like. It was me in a section of the public library with about 70 boomers. I was the youngest person there, by far. Grinnell, Iowa is very interesting because of Grinnell College... it is a farm town in the middle of nowhere with an uppity, prestigious private university with a bunch of hippie communist college students. When Bernie Sanders came to town hundreds of young people flocked to the public park to hear him speak, and yet here I was wanting to champion small government in a room full of boomers and there wasn't anybody there even remotely close to my age. I spotted one man who was young, at least on a relative basis. Probably in his late 30's. We were all given time to go up and speak the case for our candidate of choice. That gentleman proceeded to go up in front of the room and give an extremely eloquent plea for a peaceful foreign policy and major economic reform. He was a military veteran who served multiple tours in the middle east. The only other person to say a word out loud in front of everyone was me. Two people spoke up about their desire for who the GOP nominee should be. Plenty of people chatted casually from their seats, but only two of us were willing to stand up and make a case. Libertarian idealism versus mass populist gravity. College town leftism outside, aging conservative energy inside. I'll never forget what happened next. The votes were read back to everyone in the room. I don't remember the exact numbers, but around 75 votes were cast, and Trump received about 70. Rand Paul received 2. From the only 2 people who spoke up. Nobody's minds were changed. That night stuck with me because it taught me something I didn’t want to learn at 19. Principle alone does not win. Eloquence alone does not win. The people with the most coherent philosophy are often just spectators while the crowd moves toward power, force, and whoever seems capable of imposing their will. That was probably the night I started to understand that politics is much less about truth than about organized power.

⚡️Bukele is hated by a lot of elites because he proved that large parts of social collapse were tolerated, not unavoidable. He destroyed the professional alibi. He showed that if a state decides order matters more than procedural vanity, activist status games, and bureaucratic self-protection, it can reassert control very fast. That is the wound. A huge amount of modern leadership culture is built around managed helplessness. Crime is “complex.” Disorder is “systemic.” Decline is “multifactor.” Public misery gets translated into language that removes agency from the people in charge. Bukele broke that machine. He made the issue embarrassingly concrete. Use power. Back the police. Crush gang control. Reclaim territory. Restore fear of the state. Suddenly the old excuses sound fake. That is why the hatred is so intense. He did not just change El Salvador. He exposed a ruling-class preference. Many leaders would rather preside over decay than be accused of being too harsh while stopping it. They fear moral contamination more than they fear public ruin. Bukele reversed that hierarchy and won. The part people still do not say out loud is even simpler. Disorder benefits insulated elites more than they admit. They do not live inside the consequences the way ordinary people do. They can moralize from protected neighborhoods, private schools, guarded buildings, and abstract language. The working and middle classes eat the actual cost. Bukele made that arrangement harder to hide. My real view is this: He proved that state weakness in many places was a choice. He also proved that restoring order requires concentrated coercive power and a leader willing to absorb elite disgust. That is the trade. People who praise him usually understate the concentration-of-power part. People who hate him usually lie about the order-restoration part. The deepest truth is this: Bukele is dangerous to the prestige class because he turned their favorite sentence into a joke. “We can’t” became “you wouldn’t.”
Geiger Capital@Geiger_Capital

The reason many of our leaders hate people like Nayib Bukele in El Salvador is because he has quickly proven that crime and societal decline are not inevitable or beyond control… It’s a deliberate choice allowed by weak leaders, terrible policies and suicidal empathy.

@sweatystartup Look into DHM; any capsule supplement that has Dihydromyricetin (aka DHM) as the main ingredient; hangovers aren't really an issue anymore with this. (For empirical data, google keywords "DHM hangover studies," or "DHM alcohol metabolism)

NEW: San Francisco judge Linda Colfax has released a man who fatally assaulted an 84-year-old because the prison sentence would have a "poor impact" on him. 25-year-old Antoine Watson was granted probation just two months after he was convicted of involuntary manslaughter and assault. Watson violently assaulted Vicha Ratanapakdee in 2021, which resulted in his death just two days later. He was acquitted of first-and second-degree murder charges and instead convicted of involuntary manslaughter. Colfax says Watson being in prison would have a "poor impact" on him and didn't think he should be there because he "expressed remorse," according to the SF Chronicle. Colfax is accused of hiding details from the jury in an apparent effort to help Watson escape prison time. Infuriating and evil.

Misleading on multiple levels. His claim: “4 years 4 months below $69K.” The data says BTC was above $69K for most of Mar 2024 through Jan 2026 — including a run to $125K. It’s only dipped back below $69K in a few brief windows recently. He’s cherry-picking today’s price vs the Nov 2021 date while ignoring the entire C4 bull run in between. His claim: “longest time period below a prior high.” Also wrong. The actual longest streaks below ATH: ∙1,183 days below the $1,238 ATH (Dec 2013 → Mar 2017) ∙1,079 days below the $19K ATH (Dec 2017 → Nov 2020) ∙846 days below the $68K ATH (Nov 2021 → Mar 2024) The current streak below the $125K ATH is only 172 days. Not even close to the longest. He’s conflating “price is below a number it touched years ago” with “price has been below that number the whole time.” Classic Schiff — technically true that BTC today is below its Nov 2021 level, but profoundly dishonest about what happened in between.

Bitcoin first hit $69K in Nov. 2021. Today, four years and four months later, Bitcoin is below $67K. This is by far the longest time period in Bitcoin's short history where the price of Bitcoin was below a prior high. It also happened despite record hype and so-called adoption.

i went clubbing last night my friends run a club in Floripa called Posh it was its 20th anniversary so all the friends decided to get together to remember the good old flashback times i dont drink alcohol for 2 years. i have dinner at 6pm and sleep at 10pm daily. we met at a resto at 10pm and the club started 2am lol i gotta tell, what a terrible experience lol if you are under 30, enjoy your party years, coz after that, what used to be entertaining basically becomes destroying your body you try to enjoy, but the cons are much higher than the pros meeting friends during the day is so much better, that i promised myself i wont enter a club anymore (im very glad i enjoyed it a lot though - so do never skip the fun stages of your life) respect the life cycle

@G_S_Bhogal That's interesting but what makes sense is it speeds up because the years become a smaller percentage of your life. When you're ten a year is 10% of your life. But a year is only 2% for a 50 year old and near 1% for a 75 year old.

The way time speeds up as we age, and our lives accelerate toward death, is like the way a person in freefall accelerates toward the ground. But time speeds up largely because there’s ever less novelty as we age, so by doing new things, you can deploy a chronological parachute.

@Giovann35084111 @davesob IME most science breakthroughs discussed in media, precede practical application by decades. In vitro vs in vivo, theoretical vs real world, very different things. We've had numerous "breakthroughs" in nuclear fusion and supralipo battery tech for 30 years sans application.

Yes, I follow many X accounts that focus on this topic—along with reading books and articles—and I’m constantly seeing news of new breakthroughs. The pace of progress is remarkable. It really feels like we’re getting very close. The immediate goal, in my view, is to extend healthy lifespan by a few decades—enough time for these technologies to mature and move through the (often slow) regulatory process. Alternatively, some people may explore jurisdictions with more flexible regulations, provided the approaches are sufficiently safe. AI will likely play a central role here. If current trends continue, it has a strong chance of accelerating our understanding of aging to the point where meaningful interventions become possible within the next couple of decades. As for cost, this follows a familiar pattern. Early adopters will pay a premium—just like with the first cell phones in the 1980s, which were bulky and only affordable to the wealthy. But over time, technology tends to democratize. Today, ordinary people have access to levels of knowledge, medicine, and information that even kings couldn’t dream of a few centuries ago.

Such a fascinating video—twenty people engaging in elaborate mental gymnastics to argue that death is somehow “good.” It really highlights how deeply conditioned we are. From early childhood, we’re immersed in a cultural narrative that normalizes—and often even glorifies—death as something natural, necessary, or meaningful. That belief becomes so ingrained that questioning it feels almost taboo. Breaking out of that mindset is incredibly difficult, because it’s not just an idea—it’s a societal enchantment, reinforced by philosophy, religion, and tradition.
