The facts: -Bezos paid $0 fed'l income tax in 2007 -He paid $0 in '11 -Btn '14-19, his wealth grew by $99 BILLION and he paid $973 million in taxes. Sounds like a lot but it's 0.98% of his wealth growth (which is his true income).

"People sometimes say that I don't pay taxes. It's not true. I paid billions of dollars in taxes," says @JeffBezos. "That's not going to solve the problem. You could double the taxes I pay and it's not going to help that teacher in Queens."

@edels0n Because the top 1% consume more than 40% of the resources. For example, Jeff Bezos's companies have been awarded about $20 billion in govt contracts. Jeff takes more out of the US govt than he puts in. Seems weird that you wouldn't explain that in a tweet. It's kinda simple.

This is a half truth. The top 1% is bankers, layers, small business owners, and highly paid employees and execs. They pay a very high effective tax rate. The super wealthy like Bezos, pay an extremely low effective tax rate, similar to a middle class family.
Jeff Bezos@JeffBezos

Yes, the United States has the most progressive tax system in the world. The top 1% pay 40% of taxes, the bottom 50% pay 3% of taxes. We can make it even more progressive by zeroing out taxes on the bottom half. It’s a small amount of the total tax revenue but very meaningful to people in this group.

@xwanyex My problem with better call saul is i find walter's motivation (ego, hating being mediocre) just an order of magnitude more relatable than Jimmy's (being sad your brother isnt proud of you as an actual adult). Like just get over it dude. Boo hoo.

The first interaction we ever had on twitter was you defending NYPD policing of fare evasion, but go off about how you hate jobs programs for the engineers that keep the trains running I guess 🤷‍♂️

@notchrisvolpe it’s a litmus test for people who actually care about transit as a critical public service vs. those who view it purely as a jobs program

@devahaz No it’s not. They have routes and shifts to those routes. It’s like telling a Starbucks worker who is on cashier duty that they also have to be on drink duty and also take the trash out, when there should be 2 other employees scheduled to do the drinks and take the trash out.

Striking union LIRR locomotive engineer George Barreto, picketing MTA headquarters Monday, on the job for 28 years. Lives in Philly. Makes ~$200,000/year. He says of work rules requiring 3x day’s pay if asked to drive 3 different trains on a shift… (1/2)

A few weeks ago we published the first hand account of a German journalist raped in Israeli custody. She co-wrote the piece with an American journalist, who was also abused repeatedly. So Israeli prison guards will do that to Germans and Americans, but not to Palestinians?
Hillel Fuld@HilzFuld

No IDF soldier has ever raped any Palestinian. Period. End of story. And if you think a dog can rape a person, you’re different level ignorant. The entire blood libel of sexual violence by the IDF is the mother of all projections. Like many other things, want to know what Israel’s enemies are guilty of? Look what they accuse Israel of. Full stop. It never happened and never will. - The end
