FINAL: WCU 4 | UNCG 3 Jackson Godfrey gets the second out with style and Davis Wright gets his fourth strikeout of the night to send the Catamounts to Friday! We'll be back in action tomorrow at roughly 12:30 p.m. to take on the Samford Bulldogs! #CatamountCountry

To be clear, I love Pete. I think he's going to get this figured out. I am just using him as an example of how I think WAR can be inflated on certain players/positions

I personally think Cabrera has been fighting something all year. This isn't the guy they traded for.

@Workcubman @SamOlbur @ryantadych He was also only of the only players that showed up for us in the playoffs last year which is basically all high leverage.

Ian Happ and Seiya will end up with solid numbers. However, as I’ve said for many years, HOW they get there and WHEN they get them is what is frustrating to a lot of fans. The how means all the volatility and inconsistency. The when means clutch situations etc.

@ryantadych Getting a hit with a man on second and 2 outs in a 9 run game counts for that too. I’m talking game on the line

@SamOlbur Through his first five Major League seasons with the Chicago Cubs, Seiya Suzuki has a career batting average of roughly .286 with runners in scoring position (RISP).

You can’t honestly say to yourself watching the cubs for the last 4+ years and say those guys are the same hitters in massive situations. Sometimes the numbers are good there but come on. Milwaukee is better in those spots.

@JesseRogersESPN @CoachGoldstick Take a peak at this stretch from the WS champs last year. It is so amazing to me the amount of "smart" baseball people never grasp this year after year. It is called baseball.

Searching for answers lol. Shota has been unbelievable, one bad start with the wind HOWLING out and all of a sudden they’re “searching for answers.” Their ace got hurt, their #2 is coming back in a month and they’re 100% making a move at the deadline. Jesse lives to bash the Cubs
Jesse Rogers@JesseRogersESPN

Milwaukee is doing Milwaukee things as they’ve climbed within a 0.5 game of the first place Cubs after a 9-3 win tonight. They crushed Shota Imanaga who gave up 9 hits and 8 runs. Cubs are searching for answers on the mound right now.

@SamOlbur Sam thinks this guy is an ace. Philadelphia Phillies left-handed pitcher Jesús Luzardo currently holds a 5.07 ERA through 9 starts in the 2026 season. Across his 8-year MLB career, he has compiled a 44-44 record with a 4.25 ERA.

you want the pitching staff to have more stuff. you want the FO to hunt more stuff, but it's not as easy as you think. So many guys with top level stuff are getting hurt daily. You also like guys who can take the ball every 5th day etc.

When the conditions are hitter friendly, the cubs pitchers are at risk of getting exposed like tonight. Lack of swing and miss stuff, susceptible to HRS etc. Jameo being the best example. Good pitching conditions protect him more than most.

One of the challenges for the Red Sox: even if they want to make substantive changes with the roster, it would be tough to do so, because they’ve got a combination of young (and cheap) players who they expect to develop; and expensive veterans who can’t easily be moved. And as the Royals can testify, adding offense in trades — power, in particular— is much tougher than adding pitching.
