Britannia most certainly does not rule the waves. The Government’s inability to manage the Royal Navy surface fleet has become a national embarrassment, with Germany now bailing us out. The Defence Secretary assured me we would be able to fulfil this commitment. We can’t.

I’m no soldier, but I’m not entirely convinced that cracking down on satirical songs criticising the army’s readiness for war is the optimum path to ensuring the army is, actually, ready for war.
