Here is a silver lining for anyone going back to school in, say, their 30s and beyond. A short 🧵 1. You arrive with self-knowledge and a clearer sense of why you are there. That changes how you learn, what you tolerate, and what you take seriously.

Manze I'll say it again, if you have the opportunity or means to further your studies while you are young, absolutely go for it. Ngumbaru sio gukene.

In theory, consistency is about being disciplined, determined, and unwavering. In practice, consistency is about being adaptable. Don't have much time? Scale it down. Don't have much energy? Do the easy version. Find different ways to show up depending on the circumstances. Let your habits change shape to meet the demands of the day. Adaptability is the way of consistency.

When you're aware of how consequential the choices are their weight can limit action. Find a way to act anyway, hopefully, as they say, you'll meet your match.

Dirt Cheap Banks
Dirt Cheap Banks@dirtcheapbanks·
I have built a spreadsheet. It has 847 rows. Each row is a community bank in the United States with a market cap below $200 million, a price-to-tangible-book ratio under 0.85, a non-performing loan ratio below 0.4%, and a CEO who has been in the role for at least twelve years. I update it every Sunday from 6 AM to 11 AM while my family attends church without me. I have visited the headquarters of nineteen of these banks in person. I have eaten a complimentary lobby cookie at each one. The cookies are how you can tell. A bank with a good cookie is a bank that respects its depositors. A bank with a stale cookie is a bank that will be acquired within 36 months at a 40% premium. I am never wrong about the cookies. The cookies have never lied to me. The cookies are the only thing left that tells the truth.

Being 28 is so weird because you feel like you’re 23 but then you meet someone who’s 23 and realize what 5 years does for you.

One person’s opportunity can be another’s limitation. I’m transitioning from healthcare into the banking and finance space. After 4.5 years of utilizing my BSN, I’ve realized nursing practice is no longer aligned with my long-term goals, regardless of the higher pay.I can't do it now even with a promise of generous pay. I’ll be heading back to campus next year to pursue a BCom (Accounting) now that I am retired at 30. This move isn’t driven solely by employability concerns, ( story na kupata kazi is not my concern) but by a genuine interest in understanding money, financial systems, and how to make capital work efficiently. For me, it’s about building financial intelligence and aligning my career with what I truly enjoy:working with numbers.

I want to be rich. But not Lamborghini or Rolex rich, I want to be rich enough to go to the gym at 3pm and nobody can tell me no. To tap the family in front of me at the supermarket and say, "It's on me," Rich enough that my future wife never has to worry about getting a job. Rich enough to show my children the world, not pictures of it. Rich enough to take my friends to dinner and say, "| got this", Rich enough that God uses me to help the people who are in need. That's my version of rich.

"Do fast players stay fast & slow players stay slow." It's one of the most common assumptions in youth sport. A recent study tracked 475 players from U12 to U19 over 8 years to test it. The answer is more complicated than you might think. 🧵

We had a lead investor long before we got incorporated. We've had a couple of expression of interests after . But fundraising is proving to be harder than just taking the money . A little inconsistency and I am out . Been looking at fundraising from a preference point - needs met , near future and long-term effects . We have grown so much in the last 90 days. Controlled user growth . But operationally as a startup - we have grown a lot . And have everything set up. At this point , the only way is up . One seed round and we sail the high seas .

Historical correction: the Luos never migrated to Kenya. We were just chilling by River Nile + its source when Kenya arrived! It is Kenya, which migrated to the Luos! "Jaluo ok sechi. Uwinjo?"
