If young adults "lack reasoning ability" (as NH Democrats allege) "until age 27", and therefore should not be allowed to be armed to protect themselves, how can NH justify permitting them to mortgage their future with hundreds of thousands of dollars in loans for fake college degrees? Either they are adult enough to put themselves into hock for the rest of their lives, -- AND may own a gun to protect themselves -- OR they should not be allowed either.

@Zerbious @Math_files A) Stupid B) Both answers are equivalent because they both show multiplication as related to addition. C) 1+1+1+1+1+1+1+1+1+1+1+1+1+1+1+1+1+1 would have been an advanced answer, showing a grasp of set theory. Would the teacher have known that?

@Math_files Even math teachers hate these questions. The direction doesn’t tell the student to estimate, just explain. The student did that. If they wanted estimation, they should have specifically asked the student to use that to answer the question.

@scottlindsay88 @Math_files Estimation is indeed a valuable skill. When the exact answer is too difficult / time consuming / not worthwhile to calculate. When the exact answer is just as easy (or even easier), estimation is not the way to go.

Engineer here: it turns out that estimating is a very powerful tool. Somehow I got into the habit of "guessing" based on very very rounded numbers what ball park am I looking at. Math in my head. This is where the number Pi=3, the modulus of steel is 30 million, strain is one mill per inch per 30,000 psi for (steel), the area of a circle is 78% of the square etc. I was often surprised how close this estimating was, and it always showed when I made a mistake in my rigorous calculations.

Until 1976, you could walk into a shop in London, England called Harrods and buy a lion, a camel, or an elephant. In 1969, two young Australians named John Rendall and Ace Bourke walked in and bought a three-month-old lion cub. They named him Christian. He lived with them above a furniture shop, played in local gardens, and rode around the city in the back of a convertible. When he outgrew London, they flew him to Kenya, where a conservationist named George Adamson released him into the wild in the Kora National Reserve. A year later, the two men flew back to find him. Adamson warned them Christian was now fully wild and might not remember them. Despite being the head of a wild pride, Christian recognised them immediately and ran to greet them. The reunion was filmed, and the footage has since been viewed over 100 million times. Christian was last seen in early 1973, heading north. He was never seen again.

@Adriksh That would be a very straightforward C compiler; I don't know if you can even get one to be so transparent, maybe with 3000 options on the command line. Or maybe Linus wrote one just to do that.

NH changed the voting rules. Student ID is no longer accepted as ID to vote. Durham NH may actually have an honest election this November.
